Fine strike of two line dated BRAILA / APR 9 transit in blue at upper right (Kiriac fig. 236) and "Galatz / Moldova" datestamp of arrival displaying well on reverse (9/4) in black. Only four examples of the 27 pa. are recorded used from Waslui (one of these is in the Romanian Academy) and only six examples of the first issue. 81 parale blue on blued wove paper, the famous rejoined used 'pair' sharing "Jassy / Moldova" datestamp (10/8) in blue (Kiriac fig. 279). The left hand stamp just touched at top of circle and clear at base with large margins on each side and the merest trace of thin, right hand stamp cleear at top and at base and equally large margins at sides, both stamps without repairs. This severed pair represents the sole example of a 'multiple' of one of the rarest stamps in all Classic Philately and is in wonderful condition. There are just 27 used examples of the 81 parale recorded (five are very defective, two are in the British Museum, one in the Romanian Academy) of these only four are postmarked in Jassy. 1864: The famous combination cover from Constantinople, sent registered, franked by Austrian Levant 1863 10 soldi blue (three examples), perf. 14, all tied by LLOYD AGENZIE / COSTANTINOPOLI datestamps (Tchilinghirian fig. 446) in black (Sept 2) pre-paying the registered rate (20 soldi postage + 10 soldi registration, and addressed to "Bourlat (mis-spelling of Berlad), Galatz". On arrival in Galatz four days later at the Austrian Post Office (6/9). The following day the cover front and part back, repositioned for display purposes, was transferred to the Romanian Post Office (August 27, Julian calendar) and then forwarded on to Berlad with 1862 handstruck vertical tête-bêche pair of the 30 parale deep blue on white wove paper and cancelled by "Galatz / Moldova" datestamps in black to pay the re-registered rate (30 pa. postage + 30 pa. registration), where it arrived on the following day. Despite faults to the pair and the cover, a remarkable and extraordinary usage of consummate rarity for both Romanian and Levant philately. Unique. 1869: 10 bani bright ultramarine, the corner block of eight from lower right of sheet (Transfer Types 4-2-3-4/4-2-3-4), with large margins all round and showing the marginal rule at base and at right, imperceptibly close but not touched at lower right, trace of minor thin on third stamp of no significance, cancelled by four strikes of BUCURESTI / DIM datestamps (17/8) in black (Kiriac fig. 441). A splendid and extremely rare multiple, the second largest used block recorded and an important plating piece-the right hand side of the sheet being filled with mixed clichés. 1869: 10 bani bright ultramarine, the famous used block of nine (Transfer Types 3-4-1/3-4-1/3-4-1) on large piece accompanied by 1868 2 bani bright orange and a vertical pair of 1870 3 bani violet, all cancelled by seven strikes of the IASSI / SERA datestamp (Kiriac fig. 466) in black, the 10 b. block with minor scissor cut in margin only between the seventh and eighth stamp, the lower stamp of the 3 b. pair with fault at base, but a truly stunning and colourful piece of great rarity. Further strike at right of form which is diagonally clipped at lower right. The 25 b., with top margin minutely shaved but with clear to large margins on the other three sides and minor file fold, applied for the cost of the reclamation search and neatly tied by bold strike of "Turnu-Severin" datestamp (8/12) in black (Kiriac fig. 358). Additional strike below and straight line TURNU-SEVERIN handstamp above, the form then sent to Alt-Orsova (9/12), Pest (13/12). Extremely rare and fine, as far as this describer can ascertain just the two of these forms, similarly franked, are recorded, the other being ex the 'Cornelia' collection.
