1868: 18 bani pale rose red, a corner marginal/blank space example with 8 mm. margin at right and 15 mm. margin at top, used on 1868 cover to Taganrog / Russia, tied by bold impression of "Galati" datestamp (7/12) in black (Kiriac fig. 394). The adhesive imperceptibly touched at upper left otherwise fine and extremely rare as a marginal example on letter; cover with "Kyben" Russian transit datestamp in black at right (Nov 28, Julian calendar) and manuscript "13" (kopeks) due alongside. One of just three covers recorded sent under the Romanian / Russian Postal Treaty of November 1867 and a stunning and rare cover, with just three covers recorded by Heimbüchler sent abroad bearing Romanian adhesives prior to 1869. Illustrated in Handbook II on page 210 and in Edition D'Or vol XII on page 139. Certificate Heimbüchler (2010).
Note: A bilateral agreement between Russia and Romania was signed on November 25, 1867 suspending the operations of the Russian Post Offices in Romania. A Post Office was opened in the border town of Sculeni which dealt with correspondence between the two countries. In either case mail had to be prepaid internally and was then charged the internal Postage Due to be paid by the recipient.Starting bid : 8,000 CHFHammer price : not sold
