    1859: Registered entire letter to Galatz carrying valuables (endorsed as travelling with 355 gold coins at left with return receipt requested) struck with "JASSY / MOLDOVA" circular datestamp (June 9) and rare usage of framed Cyrillic "FRANCO" and "RECEPISSE" registration handstamp all in blue (Kiriac figs. 292+216). Charged "33 Lei" in manuscript at upper right (old Lei = 1'320 parale). Two insignificant file folds, a wonderful and extremely rare entire.     Austrian occupation of the Danubian Principalities during the Crimean War, 1855 (July 26): Entire letter from Bucharest to Forwarding Agent in Galati from there to Constantinople, struck by "BUKAREST 26 / 7" cds of the consular P.O. (Tchilinghirian fig. 713) and oval FRANCO, full prepayment indicated by additional franco pen cross. Front struck by oval "SCHLIENGER BROs & Co / GALATZ" forwarder cachet in blue, not listed in Kenneth Rowe, internal manuscript docketing gives August 2 as day of receipt. An interesting forwarded item, a procedure which was in principal no more necessary as the postal connections, overland during the winter and with DDSG and Lloyd during the summer, were swiftly restored after the occupation of the Danubian Principalities.

    1858, Bull's Head,  27 pa. black on rose laid paper, an example with close to good margins, fresh vibrant colour, cancelled by two part strikes of "BERLAD / MOLDOVA ./8" datestamp in blue, Kiriac fig. 272; only five examples of the 27 pa. are recorded in the Heimbüchler handbooks used from Berlad with this stamp being a new find; stamp is completely backed, still an attractive example of this desirable stamp due to its excellent colour and fresh appearance.
