    Austrian occupation of the Danubian Principalities during the Crimean War, 1855 (July 26): Entire letter from Bucharest to Forwarding Agent in Galati from there to Constantinople, struck by "BUKAREST 26 / 7" cds of the consular P.O. (Tchilinghirian fig. 713) and oval FRANCO, full prepayment indicated by additional franco pen cross. Front struck by oval "SCHLIENGER BROs & Co / GALATZ" forwarder cachet in blue, not listed in Kenneth Rowe, internal manuscript docketing gives August 2 as day of receipt. An interesting forwarded item, a procedure which was in principal no more necessary as the postal connections, overland during the winter and with DDSG and Lloyd during the summer, were swiftly restored after the occupation of the Danubian Principalities.
