The block with marginal lines at left and at base and well cancelled by bold rimless CORREIO GERAL DA CORTE datestamps (November 16, 1843) in black. William Knox Martin-First Experimental Flight from Barranquilla to Puerto Colombia. The 1917 current 2 centavos carmine-rose was overprinted in 10 definable types horizontally, the sheet being cut into strips prior to sale, thus vertical multiples and blocks cannot exist. Eugenio Gebauer and Jairo Londoño de Tamayo believed there to be 200 examples printed, D. Hugo Goeggel & Carlos Valenzuela project a total of 300 examples printed. There were 160 letters carried on the First Flight on June 18, 1919, the mail being dropped at Puerto Colombia and the plane returning to Barranquilla without landing. Either mint or used, these stamps represent some of the great rarities of Airmail philately.
2 c. carmine-rose, position 5, mint example showing the variety: "arabic 1" in "18-19" at base of overprint, a fine example with some light ageing, showing further breaks in several of the overprint's lettering; large part original gum. A rare stamp Gi 379a = £ 9'500/Mi 264/I = EUR 8'500/Scott = $ 7'250.

30 reis deep black, Early Impression from the First Composite plate, State A, very early printing-the famous mint corner block of four from upper left of sheet (positions 1-2/7-8) with enormous margins all round and in a very deep vibrant shade, showing slight burr rubbing of the ink in top margin, minor bends and slight crease at upper left in margin only and slight stain on position 8, however these are negligible faults of no importance - a magnificent rarity with large part original gum. By far the finest of only three mint blocks of four known of the first stamp to be issued in the American continent, this multiple being of impeccable provenance and a highlight of Worldwide Philately.

60 reis grey-black, Worn Impression on greyish paper, a fine horizontal pair with large even margins all round, used on reverse of 1845 taxed cover from Alagoas to Rio Grande Do Sul and re-addressed to Porto Alegre. The fine adhesives tied by bold strike of circular CORREIO GERAL DAS ALAGOAS datestamp (Jan 14) well struck in black (Ayres 1604). On arrival struck with dated RIO GRANDE handstamp (Ayres 1620) in black (Feb 1) and forwarded on with PORTO AL. eventual arrival (Feb 11) datestamp in black. Manuscript notation on obverse at top "Ins a pagar o porte-terra-60" (reis) due for the additional journey from Rio Grande. Some red crayon graffiti from a previous collector on front and small insignificant faults to cover, however besides foreign destination covers, the sole recorded 'due' usage and thus extremely rare. 1865 (Jan 1): First Printing Group ½ real bright ultramarine on greyish wove paper with slight surface blueing, fine impression, the superb mint block of 42 being the right hand half of the sheet of 84 subjects, positions 7-12, 19-24, 31-36, 43-48, 55-60, 67-72 79-84, with the sixth stamp showing a small tear, full marginal rule vertically at right and horizontally at both top and at base, minor bends between rows and some colour loss in small patches but this is of no real significance as this multiple represents the largest recorded of the First Printing where only two other blocks (of 12 and 18) exist. Despite the minor imperfections, a stunning multiple of great freshness with large part or unmounted original gum. One of the gems of all South American Philately. Unique.

60 reis grey-black, Intermediate Impression on yellowish paper, the magnificent vertical block of ten from the Second Large plate, State B, positions 5-6/11-12/17-18/23-24/29-30 and thus from the top right corner of the sheet, with outer frame line visible at top. Huge margins all round and neatly cancelled by "Correio Geral Da Corte" datestamps (April 8, 1845). But for a horizontal crease in margin between the third and fourth rows a faultless and delightful multiple of the utmost importance in Brazilian philately. Illustrated in "Bulls Eyes" by Brookman on page 9, when the multiple was a vertical block of twenty, this being both the finest and most attractive of the two multiples. A truly wonderful Exhibition piece for the specialist.

Fresh and very fine cover used during the four month period under 'Mosquera' rates. Cert. Moorhouse (2012).
Note: On August 28, 1861 Tomas Cipriano de Mosquera altered the existing postal rates by memorandum. 30 reis black, Early Impression, the Interpane used block of four, Third Composite plate, positions 15-16/3-4 between upper and middle panes, the "founding piece" for the third plate theorised by Napier, being two separated and re-joined vertical pairs in a deep shade cancelled by "Correio Geral Da Corte" datestamps (April 26, 1845) in black. Together with the Pack Strip and Xifopagus, these two pairs show the format of the Third plate, these being the sole surviving examples of the interpane 30 reis. Rose or any other Captain that may come there on my account. I am now going to Guatemala on a very good footing, and in a very few months shall be at the above Islands where I think you had better stay and receive some Robinson Crusoe education till you hear from me again. 1 peso pink, the famous "Laarsen Stone" showing all 54 positions on the sheet of 54 subjects (9x6) on album page, it is believed by students that only about half of Laarsen's configuration is correct, however all 54 stamps are different in type as the 1 peso stone was adapted from the stone of the 2½ centavos value. The reconstruction shows 11 unused stamps including a pair, a top marginal used pair and six further marginal stamps, most being with manuscript cancellations although 11 bear handstamps. Condition is obviously variable but a wonderful and renowned plating study of immaculate provenance. An extraordinary showpiece.
