    1857 (June 5): Lloyd Austriaco ticket for a third class passenger travelling from Alexandria to Piraeus, struck on front with good impression of rare AGENZIA DEL LLOYD AUSTRIACO / ALEXANDRIA in blue (Tchilinghirian fig. 3). Fascinating document with rules stated on reverse 'No letter, parcels, mail pouches etc. may be carried in the baggage' and 'Servants will travel steerage and may enter the higher classes, but only to serve their masters and mistresses' and 'Gentlemen may not enter Ladies' cabins'. Also an Egyptian 1 pi. stat. envelope cancelled 'Damanhour-Alexandria' TPO with 'Agenzia Del Lloyd Austro-Ungarico / Alessandria' cachet. Scarce and most unusual pair.

    1861 (March 14): Cover from Alexandria to Florence with 'Alexandrien' cds (Tchilinghirian fig. 5) in green and struck twice with large '15/15' (kreuzer) handstamp (unlisted by Van Der Linden) being the amount payable from Alexandria to Trieste and the onward 15 kr. for Trieste to Ancona. Manuscript '9½' charge for Ancona to Florence (Tuscany) for the amount due in soldi on receipt. Reverse with two Italian TPO's and Florence arrival cds (March 28). Rare and most appealing cover.

    1862 (Oct 27): Entire letter from Triest to Alexandria endorsed 'Col Vapore Austr. diretto' with very fine oval COL VAPORE DA TRIESTE struck in blue on arrival, with ALEXANDRIEN datestamp in same ink (Nov 3) on reverse. Charged '30' kreuzer due for a double weight letter. The earliest recorded usage with the 'Trieste' slug in the handstamp: it was removeable and 'Berutti' or 'Smirne' could be added as desired. Fine and attractive entire.

    1874 (Jan 12): 4 soldi red postal stationery card, creased horizontally, mailed to Prague and struck with ALEXANDRIEN datestamp with three line date (Tchilinghirian fig. 11) in black-a rare cancellation introduced in July 1873 and in use for just seven months-with Prague arrival (Jan 19) at left. The 4 soldi card was in use from 1873 until June 1874 when it was replaced by the 5 s. card in anticipation of the UPU universal rate. Despite the fault, a very rare usage from Alexandria.

    Note: The Port Said Office was opened on April 13, 1869 in anticipation of the new Lloyd Line to India, but closed in 1872.

    Sayada 1904 (Jan 26): Postcard of Gravosa written from Sayada to Corfu, franked by Turkey 10 pa. green, minor ageing around perfs., tied by oval framed AGENZIA DEL LLOYD AUSTRIACO / SAYADA cachet in violet (Tchilinghirian fig. 520). Sayada, some 55 miles north of Prevesa, had a population of between 1'000 and 2'000 mainly illiterate people at this date. A major rarity of the Austrian Lloyd, Tchilinghirian recorded no covers at all.

    Piraeus 1866 (March 8): Entire letter from Piraeus to Athens, struck with the sole recorded example of the oval framed AGENZIA DEL LLOYD AUSTRIACO / PIREO in bright blue (Tchilinghirian 522). Matched with a 1901 5 lepta stationery card with a later Lloyd cachet AGENZA PRIMARIA DEL LLOYD AUSTRIACO / PIREO also in blue on reverse (fig. 524). The Lloyd Agency was obviously not permitted to provide Postal Services within Greece, however this cover proves that mail was transmitted by courier under Lloyd's own seal. An extraordinary and fine entire letter and unique.

    1898 (May 16): Cover from Piraeus to Paris, slight file fold, franked by Athens printing Small Hermes imperforate 25 l. reddish purple tied by oval framed AGENZIA DEL LLOYD AUSTRIACO / PIREO in violet, with Piraeus transit and Paris arrival on reverse; also a small piece with Small Hermes 5 l. bright green imperforate cancelled by complete 'Agenzia Primaria / DEL LLOYD AUSTRIACO / 11 APR. 1898 / PIREO' in blue. The Lloyd Office in Piraeus was only allowed to accept parcels, thus the items here are both extremely rare.

No apparent Austrian rate markings, charged 5 neugroschen on arrival in manuscript.

'TUR' transit and disinfected at Boyana, Galicia with rastel punches, charged 91 centesemi on arrival (18 kr. to Vienna, 9 kr. to Genoa). Fresh and fine, a rare entire.

    1839 (Dec): Home-made envelope and contents sent registered from Galatz via Vienna and Linz to Brakenheim, Wurttemberg struck with GALACZ and RECOMANDIRT handstamps twice (Tchilinghirian unlisted), the letter being prepaid at double rate of 70 kr. (24 kr. to Vienna, 24 kr. to Brakenheim and 18 kr. registration and Advice of Receipt). Disinfected by punch holes at Bojana and showing the Austrian registration 'grid' in red crayon at right. Rare.

Prepaid at the enormous charge at top of Postage 30 kr. + 95 kr. Insurance in manuscript and struck with straight line FRANCO and LAUT ANGABE in green alongside GALLATZ cds in same ink (Tchilinghirian figs743, 746 and unlisted). Minor fault on reverse but a very rare cover.
