The stamps are tied by a straight line AFFRANCATA and the FIURENZUOLA double circle in red. The stamps are gently cancelled with the red grid of FIURENZUOLA . Due to being stuck close to the edge, the franking shows minor signs of wear, particularly the 5c. black.  A very rare mixed franking of first and third issue. The letter was despatched the day on which Duchessa Maria Luisa II was deposed and the Provisional Government installed. A fabulous letter to display the history of PARMA. The right pair is tied by the PARMA datestamp (22. Oct. 1859). A tax mark has been applied to the front, a transit MILANO (24. Oct.) and an arrival mark PADOVA (25/10) can be found on the reverse.  An immensely beautiful letter of great philatelic importance for the Provisional Government collector, it has been signed by a host of philatelic experts, beginning with Bolaffi, Enzo Diena and others. The letter, a 4th weight rate trans-atlantic letter, was originally weighed and endorsed "3" for third weight rate, but checked in France and found to be underfranked due to the 4th weight rate being applicable. The was "3" crossed and replased by "4" and endorsed 'affr. insuff'. Upon arrival in New York a "PAID ALL" cachet was applied in error and subsequently obliterated by multiple cork cancel strikes.
