The very rare block is in its original state without any repairs. It has some margin faults and is cut into at the bottom and at the top on the right hand stamp. The stamps are tied by a straight line AFFRANCATA and the FIURENZUOLA double circle in red. The stamps are gently cancelled with the red grid of FIURENZUOLA . 1866 (9. August): 2l. scarlett, together with horizontal pair 60c. mauve and 40c. rose carmine, London prints, four fresh and fine examples on letter from Palermo via Marseille to New York. The stamps are cancelled by a dotted numeral "186" of Palermo. The letter, a 4th weight rate trans-atlantic letter, was originally weighed and endorsed "3" for third weight rate, but checked in France and found to be underfranked due to the 4th weight rate being applicable. The was "3" crossed and replased by "4" and endorsed 'affr. insuff'. Upon arrival in New York a "PAID ALL" cachet was applied in error and subsequently obliterated by multiple cork cancel strikes. 1864 (5.Jan): 2l. scarlett (London print), single franking on letter from GENUA to BUENOS-AYRES, via British mail. The stamp is tied to the letter by single strike "GENOVA". A red mark PP was applied on despatch. The letter crossed into France via LANSLEBOURG (7. Jan) and arrived in London the following day. (8. Jan.). Minor ageing on the stamp. The stamps are tied by seven strikes of the single circle date stamp "VENEZIA" (23 MAR 67 11M). The franking is one of the largest known multiple frankings of the first type "FERRO DI CAVALLO". 1889: 5l. green and carmine, together with 1l. brown and yellow (3) and 45c. olive on large fragment of an insured letter from Rome to Palermo, each stamp tied by, due to the contents slightly blurry cds "ROMA". An insurance label "A/ ITALIA/ ROMA/355" is also affixed to the front. In the top left hand corner is an endorsement g588 for the weight and l. 8.45, which is the resulting postal charge. The piece has been cleaned and has a central vertical fold well clear of the franking. The letter is signed Enzo Diena and comes with a certificate "[....]originale e reca francobolli perfetti". The block hails from the top left quadrant of the sheet and displays on field pos. 15 the thin foot of the number "2" and on fields forty through 45 three blots of ink, spilt during printing.
