    1866 (Aug 7): Great Britain 1865 1 s. green pl. 4, a used example on 1866 entire letter from San Francisco, USA to Melbourne, Victoria endorsed 'Per Steamer via Panama', tied by "PANAMA / C35" duplex (Aug 25) in black. Carried on the "Kaikoura" of the 'Panama, New Zealand & Australia Royal Mail Co' and backstamped at Sydney (Oct 9) and Melbourne (Oct 13). Entire with file folds and the adhesive with rounded corner perf. however we record just one other cover from Panama to Australia in the Great Britain Used Abroad period being an 1867 franking to Sydney also bearing a 1 s. green pl. 4 (ex the Kornan collection). A wonderful strike of a very scarce handstamp.

    1870 (Feb 27): Great Britain 4 d. vermilion pl. 11, a horizontal strip of three used on 1870 cover from Tampico to Lugano, Switzerland tied by two bold strikes of "C63" obliterator with double arc "Tampico" cds of British P.O. below (Feb 27) at left. 'London / Paid' transit  (March 28) and circular 'PD' applied in red, thence via Calais and Paris with further datestamps of 'Basel-Olten', Curio and Lugano (March 31) on reverse. An unusual usage placed directly on board the British ship to Vera Cruz and avoiding the Mexican internal fee. Illustrated in 'Mexican Maritime Mail' by Karl Schimmer and John Heath on page 127.     1875 (July): Great Britain 1873 1 s. green pl. 10, a vertical strip of three lettered RF/TF, used on 1875 double rate cover from Cobija to Guildford, England endorsed 'via Panama, per W.I. Mail to Southampton' tied by two bold strikes of the "C39" obliterator in black. The stamps originally cut on piece from the envelope and thankfully returned to their original position, reverse with Guildford arrival cds (Aug 12). Possibly the finest strikes known of this amazingly elusive Postal Agency and despite the obvious imperfection, an attractive cover and a very rare usage.

    1878: Great Britain 1873 6 d. grey pl. 15, a used example lettered TI, on 1878 cover from Antofagasta to New York, tied by fancy framed gothic script "Franca" handstamp in blue with octagonal framed "10c. / CORREOS ANTOFAGASTA / 10c." handstamp alongside. Reverse with 'Lima / Pral.' transit cds in black (May 12) and, on arrival struck with 'New York / Due 5 Cents' handstamp (June 2) for incoming Ship Letter fee. The 6 d. adhesive with blunted perforations in the wing margin not detracting from the beautiful appearance and of no significance compared to the rarity of the cover. Slightest of aging to perfs. but a fine and unusual cover - the 3 d. rose plate 12 was not issued to any British Post Office in Brazil and this is the latest reccorded usage of British stamps from this Office. Steamer Bentinck' with docket number 1379 at upper right, struck with superb oval "♚ / PAID / AT / MACAO" single ring handstamp in red (Frazao MAC BPPP1) and prepaid '1/10d.' in Macau below. Framed INDIA applied at Calcutta in transit, with Liverpool arrival on reverse (Feb 8, 1844) in black. Extremely rare, in use for just less than one year (Oct 14, 1843-Oct 1, 1844) with this strike being the earliest recorded by Parmenter & Gordon on page 2/4, there being but three examples of this handstamp recorded. Illustrated in Frazao "Pre-Filatelia Portuguesa" on page 237. One part of back flap missing but an extraordinarily rare Crown Circle Gi = £ 32'500.rnNote: Letter states "Sir. H. Pottinger went up to the Bogue on the 8th inst. when he had a meeting with the Imperial Commissioner and the exchange of the Supplementary Licence took place. HM Steamer Driver goes Northwards on the 20th inst., we hear, and takes up the Consuls for Amoy and Shanghai. The Consul for Ningpo will proceed to his port in a about a month. No Consul has been appointed yet to Foo Chow Foo...". Sir Henry Pottinger negotiated the Treaty of Nanking (1842) and became the first Governor of Hong Kong (1848-1854).

Red manuscript '£6.8.0' also at base; one or two stamps with faults but insignificant compared to the rarity of the franking - larger even than the Burghard and Canman examples illustrated on plate 61 in Webb's 'Treaty Ports'. A sensational item, just the three fronts with these high frankings are recorded: illustrated in Frazao '"Pre-Filatelia Portuguesa" on page 239.     1875 (July 1): Combination cover from Beirut to Glarus, Switzerland, mailed on the First Day of the UPU, franked by Great Britain 1875/76 2½ d. rosy mauve pl. 1 tied by three bold strikes of the "G06" obliterator with 'British Post Office / Beyrout' cds in black alongside (July 1, code C) paying rate to Alexandria and France Ceres 1871/75 30 c. grey-brown, eight examples for 2 fr. 40 c. triple rate all tied by "5080" gros chiffres in black with 'Alexandrie / Egypte' cds below (July 5). Slit for disinfection on front panel, reverse with British P.O. 'Alexandria' cds and Glarus arrival cds (July 14). Some overall aging but a spectacular and unique franking.     1873 (June 6): Great Britain 1858/69 2 d. blue pl. 14 in a vertical pair and 1867 10 d. red-brown, two examples, used on 1873 double rate cover from Beirut to New York tied by four strikes of the "G06" obliterator with 'British Post Office / Beyrout' cds alongside in black (June 6). 'London / Paid' transit cds (June 18) in red and 'New York / Paid All' arrival with '4' (cents) credit mark in manuscript. Reverse with 'Alexandria' transit cds (June 9). Some aging but a splendid and scarce cover.

Circular 'Paq. Ang. v. Brind / A Modane' cds also on obverse (July 23) in red. Reverse with British P.O. Alexandria transit (July 17) and Lyon arrival (July 24). A delightfully attractive and rare entire.
