    1870 (Feb 27): Great Britain 4 d. vermilion pl. 11, a horizontal strip of three used on 1870 cover from Tampico to Lugano, Switzerland tied by two bold strikes of "C63" obliterator with double arc "Tampico" cds of British P.O. below (Feb 27) at left. 'London / Paid' transit  (March 28) and circular 'PD' applied in red, thence via Calais and Paris with further datestamps of 'Basel-Olten', Curio and Lugano (March 31) on reverse. An unusual usage placed directly on board the British ship to Vera Cruz and avoiding the Mexican internal fee. Illustrated in 'Mexican Maritime Mail' by Karl Schimmer and John Heath on page 127.
