    1863/64: Correpondence (9, all except two covers with long and complete contents) from Metz to a Lieutenant Colonel of the Engineers serving with the Corps Expeditionaire du Mexique, all covers with 1862 Empire frankings: seven covers mailed via Great Britain at 50 c. rate and two by French ships at concessionary 20 c. rate, eight cancelled by '2336' gros chiffres of Metz (last cover cancelled at Roussy-Le-Village and written in Mondorf, Luxembourg) and sent via Paris with Control datestamps (to check and endorse the rates) of transit, with one February 1864 cover at 50 c. rate showing rare usage of "CORPS EXP. MEXIQUE / BAU A" circular datestamp (April 1) applied as a backstamp. Plus two further covers to the Colonel mailed locally upon arrival home to Metz (March 1866) and a local May 1866 cover with fine "Paris A Strasbourg / A" TPO cds. Some imperfections to be expected but a fascinating and rare correspondence (11 covers).

    1922 (Feb 17): Registered Express delivery envelope to Basle, Switzerland, franked with compl. set of Dollard overprints in black ½ d. green to 10 d. turqoise, ovpt. by Thom1 ½ d. red-brown, 2 d. orange (Die II), 6d. purple and 1 s. bistre-brown together with Dollard compl. set of Seahorses 2 s. 6d.,5 s. and 10 s.grey blue, all tied by "Dublin 21 MR 22" cds's., backstamped at "Basel 2 24.III.22" on reverse. Fine three set franking, typical for a collectors correspondence, one month after issue, only few covers known with such high Seahorse frankings Hibernian/MacDonnell T1-8, T12-14, T15-19.

Very early Irish acceptance for London-Paris airmail service, only very few items known to date. In addition most interesting documentation (photocopies) from the Cyril Dulin Archive concerning 'General Regulations' for Irish Airmail usages.

    Air mail provisionals made for the James Mollison Flight 1932 (Aug. 18): "ATLANTIC AIR MAIL AUGUST" magenta overprint on 1 s. 'Sword of Light' light blue in a horizontal pair with full original gum, each value signed on reverse by 'Jam' in manuscript (J.A, Mollison). A very scarce unused horizontal pair and the only mint example in existance. The collectors research revealed the existance of only 15 mint stamps with this private overprint, as there are only five singles, one pair and two blocks of four with one housed in the British Library.

    'Seafarer Atlantic Record Flight' 1933 (July 22/23): Envelope fom Dublin franked with six adhesives King George V 1 d., all remained uncancelled, with Irish Airpost label, endorsed 'Per Atlantic Air Mail, The Seafarer' London to New York, addressed to Quebec, Canada, carried on the flight from Pendine Sands, Wales to New York, by Amy Johnson and her husband Jim Mollison, on July 23 the plane 'Seafarer' was forced to land in a swamp near Bridgeport, Connecticut, after running low on fuel, signed by both pilots.     'Seafarer Atlantic Record Flight' 1933 (July 22/23): Stampless legal size envelope carried on the flight from Pendine Sands, Wales to New York, by Amy Johnson and her husband Jim Mollison, on July 23 the plane 'Seafarer' was forced to land in a swamp near Bridgeport, Connecticut, after running low on fuel, signed by both pilots with type-written note on reverse: "This letter was recovered from the marsh at Bridgeport .....crashed in the 'Seafarer' July 23rd.1933 after successfully crossing the North Atlantic from Wales, New York City July 27th 1933".     1928 (Sept. 13): 'Ile de France' Catapult Mail from Ireland to Canada, registered photocard from Dublin prepared for the Catapult flight to Canada, franked with 2s.6d, 10d. and 2 ½ d. with attached green label with manuscript "Catapult airmail per SS Ile de France via Plymouth" sent via "London 16 Sep. 26" to Winnipeg Sept. 27". Unfortunately the catapult aircraft had a forced landing into the sea near Sicilly Islands Sept. 13th. This accident stopped all further flights. A rare acceptance of Irish Mail and one of only three items known.

    1937 (Sept. 8): St. Patrick 2/6 d. green used on First Day of Issue on registered envelope from Waterford "Port Lairge 8.IX.37" to USA, backstamped on reverse with New York transit to North Dakota, USA together with St. Patrick 10 s. indigo single franking on similar registered cover from the same correspondence from Wateford cancelled by "Port Lairge 31.1.38" cds. with "Deville Lake N.Dakota Feb. 8 1938" arrival mark on reverse. Tanner (owner), A.E. Caudron (a balloonist) and C. Turner of the Daily Graphic. The balloon reached Sweden on 14 October. The aeronauts mistook the Swedish Lake Vännern for the open Atlantic and crash-landed near the village of Bracken. The aeronauts left the balloon which broke up and finally came to land at Tösse with cards scattered over a large area.

    Crash of Loganair Flight (LC670A) Shorts 360 G-BNMT ditching into the Firth of Forth Estuary 2001 (Feb. 27): Envelope of Dundee Central Library with 27p. meter-mark of "Dundee 26.02.01" and business envelope of Edinburgh City Library (20.02.01), together with British Mail Customer Service Manager appologize letter "I am very sorry that the enclosed letter has been damaged during transit...." dated 'March 2001'. Loganair Flight 670A (LC670A) was a scheduled cargo flight for the Royal Mail from Edinburgh-Turnhouse Airport, Scotland to Belfast International Airport. On 27 February 2001 the Short 360 operating the flight ditched in the Firth of Forth off Edinburgh at around 17:30 local time; the two crewmembers' bodies were found in the wreckage a few hours after the crash.

Niece of Rowland Hill, she lived with her sister Rosamund. The two sisters  were both involved in prison reform, especially the treatment of juvenile delinquents and the children of the poor. Florence was also involved in the fight for women's suffrage.
