1879 (Oct 28): Cover with complete original contents written from Callao, reverse with handstamped "VICTORIEUSE / LE COMMISSAIRE / de la division navale du pacifique" in blue. Franked by France Type Sage 15 c. blue pair tied / deleted in manuscript by blue crayon cross at British P.O. with "PANAMA / TRANSIT" three line dated handstamp (Nov 7). Thence via London (Dec 2) where "T / 1-10" applied in black. Charged with handstruck '16' décimes handstamp, the 30 c. franking credited on arrival (Dec 4) and tax reduced to '13' décimes in manuscript and the stamps were again cancelled in Toulon. Arequipa 10 c. rose imperforate, overprinted circular Arequipa in blue, a vertical strip of three and a vertical pair with top stamp diagonally bisected, on 1883 cover to Paris all tied by AREQUIPA straight line handstamps in black. Stamps surrounded by '0' markings denoting no franking value. Reverse with Lima transit cds (Nov 22) and taxed on arrival with 1882 Postage Due 10 c. black, 40 c. black and 1 fr. black (Maury T15+T19+T22) tied by triangular handstamps. Superb strike of extremely rare "GUAYAMA / PUERTO RICO" despatch datestamp in blue at right (June 11) and reverse with British P.O. "SAN JUAN PORTO RICO" cds in blue (July 13). Thence via London where scarce "COLONIES / ART-18" applied in red (June 30) and taxed '15' décimes due in black on arrival: tariff of 1 Aug 1849. 1862/63: France 80 c. carmine, a single example used on 1865 mourning envelope to Bordeaux tied by bold strike of "ADMON. DE CORREOS / MONTEVIDEO" oval datestamp (March 1) in black. Probably carried on the RMSP "Parana" which left Montevideo on the same day, arriving at Southampton on 5 April. London cds on reverse in red (April 5) and struck there with framed "GB / 1F 60c." accountancy marking in black. Calais entry mark and charged '8' décimes in black.
