    1879 (Oct 28): Cover with complete original contents written from Callao, reverse with handstamped "VICTORIEUSE / LE COMMISSAIRE / de la division navale du pacifique" in blue. Franked by France Type Sage 15 c. blue pair tied / deleted in manuscript by blue crayon cross at British P.O. with "PANAMA / TRANSIT" three line dated handstamp (Nov 7). Thence via London (Dec 2) where "T / 1-10" applied in black. Charged with handstruck '16' décimes handstamp, the 30 c. franking credited on arrival (Dec 4) and tax reduced to '13' décimes in manuscript and the stamps were again cancelled in Toulon. Corner opening tear but an extremely unusual entire with long contents.

    1883: Provisional Triangle Overprints 1 c. orange and 10 c. green with UPU and Triangle 10 c. green used on 1884 cover from Lima to Paris tied by large "Correos / Lima Peru" datestamps. Two large circular "T" markings in black and 'Paris / Etranger' cds in blue (Feb 5). Manuscript '2' at upper left corner to denote double weight and charged with 1882 1 fr. black (Maury T22) tied by triangular handstamp. An extremely rare usage.

    Arequipa Provisionals 1883. Arequipa 10 c. rose imperforate, overprinted circular Arequipa in blue, a vertical strip of three and a vertical pair with top stamp diagonally bisected, on 1883 cover to Paris all tied by AREQUIPA straight line handstamps in black. Stamps surrounded by '0' markings denoting no franking value. Reverse with Lima transit cds (Nov 22) and taxed on arrival with 1882 Postage Due 10 c. black, 40 c. black and 1 fr. black (Maury T15+T19+T22) tied by triangular handstamps. Edge wear to envelope but of great rarity.

    1886: Consular cover sent stampless from Lima to France by Diplomatic bag, struck with "Legation de France / au Pérou" in blue with Consular cachet on reverse and endorsed "Service", struck on arrival with triangular "T" marking in blue and "Paris / Etranger" cds (Feb 24) in blue. Manuscript '2' at left for double weight and taxed with 1882 1 fr. black (Maury T22) tied by "Mirande / Gers" cds (Feb 16). Rare.

    Antilles 1855: Cuba ½ r. blackish-green, a clear to large margined example from left of sheet with portion of adjoining stamp at top, used on 1856 cover to La Rochelle endorsed "par voie d'Angleterre", tied by oval network handstamp in black. Superb strike of extremely rare "GUAYAMA / PUERTO RICO" despatch datestamp in blue at right (June 11) and reverse with British P.O. "SAN JUAN PORTO RICO" cds in blue (July 13). Thence via London where scarce "COLONIES / ART-18" applied in red (June 30) and taxed '15' décimes due in black on arrival: tariff of 1 Aug 1849. Reverse with British P.O. "SAN JUAN PORTO RICO" cds in black . Thence via London where "GB / 1F 60c." accountancy mark applied in black (June 14).     Antilles 1880: Puerto Rico 25 c. grey-blue, a used example on 1880 cover to Paris tied by faint oval network handstamp, reverse with fine oval "PLAYA DE MAYAGUEZ / PTO. RICO" despatch datestamp (March 22). Underpaid by 15 c. and struck with triangular "T" marking surrounded by array of manuscript notations; reverse with fine circular "LIGNE F. / PAQ.FR." in black (March 22) and fair only "octagonal "LIGNE B" datestamp (March 28) and Paris arrival (April 12) where eventually taxed at '2' décimes due. Slight closed tears at right but a scarce and unusual cover.

    Antilles 1882-86: Puerto Rico 8 c. grey-brown horizontal pair used on 1887 cover to France, paying the double rate, tied by "San Juan" despatch cds (Aug 13). Found top be triple weight upon arrival with triangular "T" marking and the amount due (80 centimes) charged with Postage Due 40 c. black and 4 c. black - either in error or a fraud by the Postal Clerk - tied by 'Sommieres / Gard' cds's (Aug 31). A fine and most unusual cover.

Prepaid as far as Panama with British P.O. "PANAMA - TRANSIT" cds (Dec 4) in black. Thence via London (Dec 30) and struck there with "GB / 1F 90c." accountancy marking in black. Calais transit and charged with handstruck '15' décimes charge in black: tariff of 1 July 1871. The cover has been sympathetically cleaned but an item of great scarcity. Cert. Prepaid as far as Panama with British P.O. "PANAMA - TRANSIT" cds (July 18) in black. Thence via London (Aug 15) and struck there with "T / 1-70" accountancy marking in blue. Calais transit and charged with handstruck '23' décimes charge in black. The cover with file folds and pinholes away from adhesive and minor aging but a very rare stamp on letter. Certs.     1862/63: France 80 c. carmine, a single example used on 1865 mourning envelope to Bordeaux tied by bold strike of "ADMON. DE CORREOS / MONTEVIDEO" oval datestamp (March 1) in black. Probably carried on the RMSP "Parana" which left Montevideo on the same day, arriving at Southampton on 5 April. London cds on reverse in red (April 5) and struck there with framed "GB / 1F 60c." accountancy marking in black. Calais entry mark and charged '8' décimes in black. An exceptional and beautiful cover. Cert. Roumet (1994) "seul pièce connue".

CALAIS" in red (Oct) overstruck by '20 c.' due marking in red on arrival. The adhesive not tied but undoubtedly belongs. Rare.

Steamer Mondego", tied by small "Correo / Montevideo" cds (June 2) in black with repeated strike below. Carried via London with "GB / 1F 60 c." accountancy marking in black, Calais entry marking of 1st July 1875 - the first day of the UPU - and charged '12' décimes due handstruck in black. France, however, whilst a signatory of the Berne agreement, elected to join on 1 January 1876.

However, carried on French Packet "Nouveau Monde" from La Guayra with octagonal "VENEZUELA / PAQ. FR. A No. 3" in black (Oct 11). Underpaid 5 centimes for the 1 fr. 20 c. rate and struck with framed AFFRANCHISEMENT / INSUFFISANT in black. Charged '25 c.' handstruck due upon arrival. Cleaned and with imperfections but a rare three issue combination usage.

Struck below adhesive with circular entry marking "OUTRE-MER / PAUILLAC" in red (May 10) and manuscript '12' décimes to pay. Bordeaux arrival cds on reverse. Octagonal "LA GUAYRA" Consular datestamp (Jan 5, 1876) in black below (Salles fig. 1374). Reverse with octagonal "VENEZUELA / PAQ. FR. A No.2" datestamp (Salles fig. 1420) and carried on the "Ville de Bordeaux". Struck with triangular 'T' marking and charged '12' décimes due on arrival - the tariff introduced on 1 January 1876. Scare and attractive cover.
