    Ballon Monté No. 1 1870 (Sept 20): Cover and complete contents written on the First Day of the Siege, sent stampless at Military concession to Arcachon prior to the announcement (Sept 21) for the public to use thin paper for the Mail to be sent by Ballon. Struck with 'Paris / 60' cds (3rd levée) and framed 'P.P.' in black, endorsed at top for Military concession with 'Armée de Paris' in manuscript. It is unclear how this letter travelled (possibly by the first Ballon "Le Neptune") as the backstamps are 'Bordeaux a Irun' (Nov 2), Arcachon (Nov 2) and then readdressed to Montpellier (Nov 4).
