    100 r. green, the sensational usage with a block of 47 on reverse of March 1879 registered cover to Paris, used in combination with 10 r. vermilion (which does not in this describer's opinion belong), 20 r. pale violet pair, 80 r. lake and 260 r. deep brown all tied by dotted segmented handstamps in black. The 100 reis block from the upper right corner of the sheet with 'American Bank Note Co. New York' imprints at top and at right. Obverse with RIO DE JANEIRO cds in (March 22) and oval REGISTRADO in red with 'Bresil / Amb. Calais B.' entry mark (April 17) in black. Despite the added 10 r. in place of a probable 20 r. (rate of 5'090 reis not possible) at lower right, a fantastic usage of the largest known multiple on or off cover.

    20 r. reddish lilac, a vertical pair with split due to ageing between, used on aged 1873 cover to Cadiz with additional 1850 600 r. black, four large margins but crossed by file fold, cancelled by segmented cork handstamps in black with 'Rio-De-Janeiro' datestamp at left (June 16) overstruck by 'P.P.' in black. Carried on French Paquebot 'Niger' at double rate and charged '1 Pestetas' due in blue on arrival (July 3) via Lisbon. Side flap missing but scarce. Cert. Moorhouse (2013).

Repeated strike below and oval framed REGISTRADA alongside. Reverse with 'Con 40$000' annotation and this the rate breaks down as follows: Postage 100 r., registration 200 r., and 2% of insured amount = 800 r. The 100 r. adhesive being very pale indeed but a most attractive and rare cover.
