    Halbierung 1850: 2 Kr. schwarz Type IIIa, die rechte untere Hälfte einer diagonal halbierten Marke, farbintensiv und breitrandig, klar und auf drei Seiten über die Halbierung übergehend entw. "TOPOLYA 5/11" (1857; Woiwodschaft Serbien) auf grossformatigem Drucksache mit Traueranzeige in ungarischer Sprache (gereinigt, Kanten gestützt), versandt nach Baja, rücks. mit Transit "M. THERESIOPEL 6/11" und Ankunftsstp. "BAJA 7/11".rnHalbierte 2 Kr. – Marken zur Begleichung des 1 Kr. - Drucksachenportos, gerade auf Todesanzeigen existiert laut Rohlfs – Ungarn Halbierungen 17 mal auf Brief. Sie gehören somit zu den 'häufigeren' Halbierungen, deren Existenz neben Markenmangel auch auf darauf zurückzuführen ist, das israelitische Kultusgemeinden lieber halbierte 2 Kr.-Marken benutzten anstatt der gelben 1 Kr.-Freimarke, da die Farbe Gelb im Judentum mit Freude assoziiert wird. Das vorliegende Stück wird bei Rohlfs auf S. 122 abgebildet und diskutiert, bei Jerger – Allgemeine und besondere Frankaturen zudem auf S. 308 erwähnt. Puschmann vermutet, dass durch die Reinigung des Briefes nicht nur ästhetische Mängel beseitigt werden sollten, sondern auch eine möglicherweise vorhandene Taxierung entfernt worden ist.     Austrian Lloyd Agency in Guastalla, Modena 1852: Modena 25 c. black on pale buff, a fine example with large margins all round (Sassone 4), used on 1855 cover to Milan, tied by six barred obliterator with matching GUASTALLA datestamp (July 16) alongside. Superb strike of "AGENZIA DEL LLOYD AUSTRIACO / GUASTALLA" sunburst handstamp in blue-green at lower left (Tchilinghirian unrecorded) and reverse with a different and also complete impression in the red wax seal with Milano arrival cds (18/7) alongside in black. The strength of the seal's impression has left a slight stain to the front panel, but a wonderful cover - one of just two examples of this Agency marking recorded, both of which have now been offered by Corinphila. 'A./P.D.' in red at right (applied in Varna, in use for just one year) and Strasbourg entry marking in blue (April 20). Reverse with Vienna transit cds (18/4) in black. The 50 soldi is of great rarity on letter and this cover, slightly refolded to protect the 50 s., is particularly attractive paying the 80 soldi double tariff with a mixed issue franking. März): Damenzierbrief von Wien nach Sitten im Wallis, frankiert mit 9 Kr. dunkelblau Type IIIa, von kräftiger Färbung und dreiseitig voll- bis breitrandig (unten zweimal berührt), klar und übergehend entw. "WIEN 10 / 5, 1 M." mit nebenges. ovalem sardischem "BOLLO INSUFFICIENTE" in Rot, rücks. Transit "BRIGUE 16 MARS 53" und Ankunftsstp. "SION 17 MARS 53". Der Absender hatte den Brief zunächst bis zur Aussengrenze des Postvereins resp. der Lega mit 9 Kreuzern frankiert, eine derartige Teilfrankatur war aber bis Ende Juni 1856 unzulässig. Daher wurde der Brief als gänzlich unfrankiert angesehen und mit '14' (Kreuzern; 9 Kr. für den Postverein und 5 Kr. für Sardinien) taxiert. In der Schweiz kamen dazu nochmal 20 Rappen Inlandsporto für den zweiten Briefkreis, was insgesamt 70 Rp. ergab, die mit Rötel vorderseitig notiert und vom Empfänger eingezogen wurden.

Whilst Muller, Tchilinghirian, Stephen and Tranmer speculated or tentatively indicated an Austrian Office in Lattakia, it is evident by this letter that the Austrian Lloyd used the French Office.     1850/67: Nahezu komplette ungebrauchte Sammlung der klassischen Ausgaben Österreichs, jeweils mit meist grossen Teilen des Originalgummis, dadurch wie üblich krakeliert, der Gummi manchmal auch etwas verstrichen, dabei 1850 Handpapier 2 Kr., 3 Kr., 6 Kr. und 9 Kr. (2), 1854 Maschinenpapier 3 Kr., 6 Kr. & 9 Kr., 1858 alle fünf Werte in Type I und alle sechs Werte in Type II, 1861 komplett, die Wappenausgabe komplett in beiden Zähnungen 14 & 9½ sowie 1867 im groben und feinen Druck komplett. Die Erhaltung wie zu erwarten mit kleinen Einschränkungen wie z. B. Prepaid as far as Genova with manuscript '20/28' on reverse in blue crayon (20 soldi Lloyd, 8 soldi for Italy), alongside 'Desenzano-Milan' TPO cds (July 5) and Genova cds (July 6). Italian '2' decimi handstamp deleted in manuscript. Malta arrival cds (July 18) and charged '2/4d.' due in manuscript altered to '6' pence in total to pay upon receipt. Empfänger des Briefes war Louis Charles Philippe Raphael d’Orléans, Herzog von Nemours (1814 - 1896), er war der zweite Sohn des Herzogs von Orléans und späteren Königs der Franzosen Louis-Philippe I. POST datestamps (Tchilinghirian fig. 588), a superb selection with postcard usages -one with Crete 10 centimes usage, printed Matter rate cover with two showing Crete 5 centimes usages, some with advertising headings, single weight covers, registered usages, wonderful array of Parcel Cards (6), two fascinating Customs / Douane forms for cigarette export etc. A splendid and fine lot.

    Austrian P.O.'s in Cyprus 1853 (May 10): Entire letter from Larnaca to Genova, sent unpaid with fine LARNACA / 10. MAG. datestamp (Tchilinghirian fig. 2) in black, sent via Triest (May 20) on Austrian ship with red 'D.A.a.L.' (Diritto Austriaco Austriache Lire) and manuscript rate '21' alongside (12 soldi for Lloyd + 9 soldi for Austria) and further rate '12/15' for Lloyd + Sardinian charge with resulting manuscript '11' decimi due on arrival in Genova (May 22). A fresh and fine entire that opens well for Exhibit display.

    Austrian P.O. in Rhodes 1867: 10 s. pale blue used on 1873 entire letter from Rhodes to Syros, Greeve tied by two line RHODUS / 1. GEN. datestamp in black (Tchilinghirian fig. 573). Manuscript '20' blue crayon due for internal delivery and Large Hermes 1871/72 20 l. blue applied and tied by '67' numeral obliterator in black. Reverse with 'Lloyd Agnezie / Smirne' transit cds (5/1) and arrival. A few cover imperfections but scarce.

    1888: 5 pi. on 50 kr. red-lilac & black, single example used with 1 pi. ultramarine & black in a strip of three, all tied to registered 1889 cover to Berlin by two fine strikes of BEIRUTH three line dated cds (26/2) in black (Tchilinghirian fig. G). Yellow registration label at left and reverse with Berlin arrival cds (10/3) in black. Slightly trimmed at top and file foldjust away from adhesives but a remarkable and rare franking Mi = € 1'700+.
