    1856/60: 2 d. blue, wmk. '2', imperforate, Plate 1, the famous and outstanding irregular block of fifteen, positions 12 / 23-24 / 31-36 / 43-48, with large margins all round, touched only on position 12 and shaved at the top of position 32. Two small closed tears at lower left and between third and fourth stamps and a diagonal crease none of which detract from the appearance of truly magnificent multiple showing the very extensive "Third Retouch" to position 24 with scrolling, Queen's Crown and TWO PENCE all retouched, and the "First Retouch" to position 36 below, retouched either side of SOUTH and to the left of WALES, fresh and fine, large part og. Illustrated in 'The Stamps of New South Wales' by G. J. Hutson on plate V and on the front cover of the 'George Ginger' sale where described as "one of the most appealing pieces it would ever be possible to own". Cert.     1907 (May-June): Small Papua Overprint (Type 4), 1 d. black & carmine, wmk. vertical, comb perf. 14 on thin paper, a used horizontal pair, marginal from left of sheet, positions 16-17 on the sheet of 30 subjects, both with variety: "Overprint Reading Upwards", position 16 showing 'Papua.' in margin and vertically over value at right on both stamps, both stamps neatly cancelled by 'Port Moresby' datestamps (Jan 10, 1908) in black. Minor aging on the intact original gum, an extremely rare and fine multiple. Cert. RPSL (1956) Gi = £ 9'000+.rnrnNote: There were two sheets with this variety. All the stamps were cancelled at Port Moresby with the exception of the bottom horizontal row of five.     1897: Charity 1 d. (1 s.) blue, a used example on fine postcard with illustration of Major General Sir Hector MacDonald DSO, cancelled by centrally struck "Wangarata" cds in red (Jan 6, 1912). Scarce and most attractive.rnrnNote: The son of a Scottish crofter, 'Fighting Mac' MacDonald enlisted in the Gordon Highlanders as a private at 17, and finished his career as a Major General. He distinguished himself in action at Omdurman (1898), became a popular hero in Scotland and England, and was knighted for his service in the Second Boer War. Posted to Ceylon as Commander-in-Chief of British forces, he committed suicide in Paris in 1903 following accusations of homosexual activity with local Sinhalese boys. His funeral attracted a crowd of over 30'000 in Edinburgh.

    1907 (May-June): Small Papua Overprint (Type 4), 1 s. black & orange, wmk. vertical, line perf. 14 on medium paper, a used vertical sheet marginal pair, positions 20/25 on the sheet of 30 subjects, with upper stamp showing the variety: "Overprint Double, One Diagonal", lower stamp with normal overprint, neatly cancelled by 'Port Moresby' datestamp (Jan 10, 1908) in black. An extremely rare pair with just five pairs 'with and without' the error possible. Exceptional exhibition item. Cert. BPA (1956) Gi = £ 21'000.rnrnNote: Just one sheet with this variety was found: the diagonal overprint being applied initially and the horizontal as a correction to the error. Positions 5, 10, 25 and 28-30 were left untouched by the diagonal overprint; all were cancelled to order except positions 14, 15, 17 and 19.

    1870 (April 22): Cover from Mount Blackwood to Boston, USA franked in full payment via Southampton with Laureated 1863/74 6 d. blue and 1870 De La Rue 2 d. brown-lilac tied by numeral obliterators in black with BLACKWOOD datestamp (April 22) at left in black. 'London / Paid' transit in red (June 17) on obverse with '2 Cents' red credit marking of arrival (illustrated in Ben Palmer 'Pre-UPU Mail of Victoria' on page 213. Coupled with a further cover carried at 11 d. rate with defective three colour 1871 franking from Smeaton (Jan 2) to Saratoga, NY also via Southampton.     Lake Lefroy Goldfield Bicycle Service 1897 (April): Lithographed at the 'Coolgardie Miner & Pioneer' Printing Office, Lake Lefroy Goldfield 6 d. rose-red on paper with green reverse, perf. 12, a fine unused example with minor thin spots not affecting the appearance. A rare Local issue in much above average quality: this example was acquired from the decendants of a Canadian prospector in 2012, having remained with the family for 116 years. Cert. Ceremuga (2012).rnrnNote: The service ran from Lake Lefroy to Coolgardie, a distance of 45 miles, Kalgoorlie and other local Goldfield camps. It was finally closed down in June 1897 when the Government mailcoach service commenced to Red Hill. The stamps were printed by the photo-zinc process in sheetlets of four stamps arranged vertically tête-bêche.

    1856/60: 3 d. dull green, a horizontal pair with large margins all round and portions of adjoining stamps at top and lower right, error of watermark "2" instead of "3", of excellent fresh colour and lightly cancelled by NSW / Sydney duplex in black (May 4, 1859). Tiny horizontal scissor cut in lower margin only well clear of the design and not affecting the splendid appearance. Believed to be the sole recorded multiple of this extremely rare stamp, in the foremost quality for the error. Unique. Cert. A wonderful example of this extremely rare stamp. Cert. Ceremuga (2011) Gi = £ 19'000.rnrnNote: Just two sheets of 30 were printed in error on thick paper with watermark vertical. As over half of the stock was used, this stamp, with the positional variety, can be considered a great rarity, with just 6 examples possible.

    1892: Printed form 'Specimen & Reprint Stamps of New South Wales With Years of Issue' featuring New South Wales issues with 28 Postage Stamps from 'Registration' (6 d.) red & blue perf., through to Courbould 5 s. purple, Map 5 s. lilac and 'Postage' in blue on 10 s. lilac & claret and £ 1 lilac & carmine, variously overprinted REPRINT (eight stamps), 'Specimen' (18) or upper case SPECIMEN (2) in black, with 1891/92 Postage Due set of ten values from ½ d. to 20 s. all overprrinted lower case 'Specimen' (4 values) or SPECIMEN (6) in black. Annotated at top "Madame Guernier, voilà le Stock", presumably by a Postal employee. Folded away from the adhesives, a very interesting form and insight as to how these stamps were initially displayed and sold.

    1854: 1 s. blue, used example, touched but with large margins on two sides, tied to 1855 cover from Melbourne to Hamburg endorsed 'per Red Jacket' clipper by oval "1/V" obliterator in black. Reverse with 'Melbourne / Crown / Victoria' despatch datestamp (April 30) and scarce oval "Ship Letter / Crown / Liverpool" of transit (July 25) - an 85 day journey - and London and Hamburg datestamps. Rated '8' for ship letter and altered to 1 s. in manuscript on obverse, charged '19' schillinge due on receipt. Listed by Ben Palmer on page 109 of the Victoria pre-UPU census. File folds and somewhat tired but a very scarce destination at this date.

    First Issue on medium soft yellowish paper 1853 (Nov 1): 1 d. blue, positions 19-20, a fresh unused hoizontal pair with most of third stamp at right, all lines and cross-hatching clear and distinct, corner marginal from lower left of sheet, huge margins all round, the first stamp with trace of thin and sheet marginal inscription "Printed by C. H. Best", the third bisected stamp with fault. Some minor gum wrinkling of no significance on part og. A famous and truly extraordinary multiple of great beauty. Cert.     1887/89: £ 7 rosine & black, wmk. V over Crown sideways, perf. 12½, an unused example of excellent centering and superb fresh colour, nearly full large part og. A very rare stamp and a delightful example, this being the sole available example in private hands with gum: just three unused examples are recorded by Geoff Kellow RDP, this includes the set housed in the collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. A wonderful stamp in the foremost quality and a great rarity of both Australian and British Colonial philately.     1858: Rouletted 6 d. bright blue, 1859 perf. 1 s. blue and 2 s. dull bluish green on pale yellow paper, used on 1860 registered cover from Ballarat to Canton Graubrunden, Switzerland all tied by "5" numeral obliterators in black and by oval "Registered / London" transit datestamp in red (Oct 22). Front with "Registered / Ballarat" (July 30) in black and Melbourne transit in red (July 31) with straight line CHARGÉ in black. Reverse with Rate box, Zurich transit cds (Oct 25) and Chur cds in black. A marvellous and colourful franking paying the ½ ounce registered rate via Southampton, unrecorded in Ben Palmer's 'Pre-UPU Destination Mail of Victoria'.
