Despatch cds (April 13) with inverted year slug and Zakyntos arrival cds (Apr 26) in blue alongside. The 50 lepta franking paid the journey to the Zakynthos disembarkation harbour, the receiver had to pay '1' (penny) internal rate which was noted on front in red crayon. Attractive cover from Greece to the Ionian Islands, which were under British rule until 1864 Hellas 6a+12/IIa.

    Mail from Austria to Greece 1867: Entire letter sent unpaid from Vienna to Patras struck with 'Wien' cds (July 25) rated '15/10' in blue crayon (15 kr. by land, 10 kr. Lloyd ship fee = 25 kr. = 75 lepta), with 1862/67 5 l. green on greenish, 10 l. deep orange on very blued paper, and 80 l. carmine, torn corner, all tied by 'Patras' datestamps (July 19, julian) with corresponding '95' (lepta) unusually in ink at base of cover (inclusive of the 20 lepta local charge). Reverse with Triest oval datestamp (July 26) and Patras cds. The entire with faults but scarce - this rate was introduced with an Austria / Greek convention in October 1866 and lasted just 18 months.     1593 (April) Doge Pasquale Cicogna, the 88. Doge of Venice (1585-1595): Eleven line Vellum manuscript starting with "Pascalis Ciconia dei gra(cia) dux Veneciensis ex fidelis" etc. with archive notes on top and bottom: 'die faeta fuit mano' (acknowledged by hand). Although the official lead seal is missing, a fine early document. One of his greatest successes was converting the Rialto Bridge, one of Venice's major landmarks and the only bridge over the Grand Canal of Venice, from wood to stone between 1588 and 1591.

    1653 (May 27): Doge Francesco Cornaro or Corner (1585 – 1656) the 101. Doge of Venice: Vellum manuscript addressed to Michele Morosini e Griolamo Grimani, Podesta and Capitaneo of Verona, written and signed by the official secretary Nicolo Padavin. Although the official lead seal is missing, a fine early document with attached transcription on Cert. Bolaffi ( 2000). The reign of Cornaro as Doge was the shortest of any Doges. He was elected on 17 May 1656 and died only a few weeks later, on 5 June 1656.
