1891 (June 18): De La Rue Colour Scheme submitted to the Tasmanian Postal authorities for the Key / Duty Plate uniform design, with twelve imperforate examples of the 6 d. value in lilac-purple or green; showing different value tablets in differing colours: white, red-brown, green, blue, carmine or brown; the TASMANIA picked out in top frame in Chinese white on each, with manuscript notations of the intended values, together with the full manuscript annotation "The 1d. and 2d. duties are included in the above colour scheme, although we believe that it is proposed at present to produce the stamps from the existing plates. If so, it will be necessary to print them in 'Doubly Fugitive" inks, in order to make them available for both Postage and Revenue purposes. We would propose purple for the 1d. and green for the 2d.". Pictorial Issue 1899: De La Rue Die Proof for the 2 d. value, with photographic frame and inset vignette engraved in deep violet, with manuscript at upper right 'May 24th, 99' and handstamped '5 JUN 99' in green. Extremely rare Proof, two examples were made, one for approval submitted to the Crown Agents for the Colonies (this example), and the second retained by De La Rue for their records.
