  • Lot# : 3363 Tasmania

1891 (June 18): De La Rue Colour Scheme submitted to the Tasmanian Postal authorities for the Key / Duty Plate uniform design, with twelve imperforate examples of the 6 d. value in lilac-purple or green; showing different value tablets in differing colours: white, red-brown, green, blue, carmine or brown; the TASMANIA picked out in top frame in Chinese white on each, with manuscript notations of the intended values, together with the full manuscript annotation "The 1d. and 2d. duties are included in the above colour scheme, although we believe that it is proposed at present to produce the stamps from the existing plates. If so, it will be necessary to print them in 'Doubly Fugitive" inks, in order to make them available for both Postage and Revenue purposes. We would propose purple for the 1d. and green for the 2d.". Illustrated in the 'De La Rue Collection' edited by Frank Walton RDP on plate 7909. Stunning item of great philatelic and historical importance and quite beautiful in it's execution. A marvellous page for the philatelic connoisseur.
