Rebound in immaculate condition in tooled leather binding. One of the great rarities of Philatelic Literature.

    1874/84: 'Inflation Rate' front and back of cover from Lima to 'any of Her British Majesty's Postmasters' franked at 600 centavos rate (22 times the inflation rate of 27 centavos, rounded up from 594 c. to 600 c.) with 1874/84 50 c. deep green (8, in four pairs) and 1 s. rose-red (2) all tied by framed ARICA handstamps in black. Lima cds on reverse of transit (Nov 26) in black and by London cds in red (Dec 29). Some cover imperfections but an extremely rare 22 times rate cover at the increased tariff of 27 centavos, in use from April to December 1879 only: the sole recorded example and unique. Cert.     1874/84: 'Inflation Rate' cover from Callao to Nantes franked at 27 centavos rate with 2 c. pale violet, 5 c. blue and 20 c. brown-red all tied by 'Callao / Pral' datestamps (Aug 13, 1879) in black. Scarce 'New York / Panama Transit' duplex (Sept 3) on front and reverse with Nantes arrival cds (Sept 17). A rare cover - this rate was in use from April to December 1879 only: the agreed rate with the UPU was 12 centavos for a single weeight letter. Due to the state of Peru's economy and galloping inflation within the country, the rate was raised to 27 centavos.

    Blockade of Callao 1880: Cover franked by 'UPU / Plata / Peru'  overprinted 2 c. rose and pair of 5 c. ultramarine used on 1880 cover from Callao to Verona, Italy tied by British P.O. 'C38' obliterator of Callao in blue-black ink with CALLAO cds (Aug 25) of British P.O. alongside. Thence past the Chilean Blockade of Callao and struck on front with circular 'Panama / Transit' cds (Sept 13). Reverse with New York transit (Sept 24) and Verona arrival (Oct 7). Believed to be the sole letter sent from Callao whilst the Blockade (April 10, 1880 until January 1881) was in force. Small faults but a significant cover. Described and illustrated in 'Filatelia Peruana' number 141 (March 1998).

    1880: 'UPU / Plata / Peru' overprinted 2 c. rose and strip of four January 1881 'UPU / Plata / Lima' 5 c. ultramarine used on 1881 double rate cover from Lima to Paris all tied by 'Lima / Principal' cds's in black with octagonal French Paquebot datestamp PANAMA - UNION / PAQ. F. A. No. 2 in black (July 1 ) below (Salles fig. 1415) applied at Colon. Paris cds of receipt in blue at left (July 25); also an 11 centavos single rate cover to the UK, carried on the same Paquebot 'Washington' on the same day. Minor faults but scarce and most attractive usages.

Taxed on arrival for internal postage with 1874 Postage Due 5 c. vermilion pair tied by 'Lima / Principal' cds (Aug 17). Faults and slightly grubby, sensibly opened for display, a scarce usage.

    1877: Cover from New York to Lima endorsed 'Str. Crescent City via Panama', franked by Banknote issue 1870/75 2 c. vermilion and 15 c. yellow-orange tied by New York duplexes (Sept 29) in black. Circular 'New York / 12' credit marking in red on front (Sept 29) and reverse with Postage Due 1874/79 5 c. vermilion (2) tied by Lima datestamps (Oct 17) in black. One Postage Due torn on opening the letter and a tad creased but a rare and appealing cover.

    1883/1932: Collection of Postal Stationery in three albums, from the 1883 Coat of Arms issue onwards, largely complete with duplication including 1899 embossed 1 c. cards with violet illustrations (4 different + 2 used), 2 c red cards with illustrations (9 different + 1 used), 3 c. blue-black cards with illustrations (8 different + 2 used), 4 c. brown with illustrations (9 different - two with same picture but labelled as different towns on the cards + 3 used); 1900 illustrated cards and later issues to circa 1914, 1882 Military Occupation stationery envelopes with 'Caja Fiscal de Lima' handstamps and 'Lima' controls etc., collection of used examples with duplication and some up-rated, including scarce 1885 50 c. red envelope used etc. A largely complete and generally fine collection.
