    1874/84: 'Inflation Rate' cover from Callao to Nantes franked at 27 centavos rate with 2 c. pale violet, 5 c. blue and 20 c. brown-red all tied by 'Callao / Pral' datestamps (Aug 13, 1879) in black. Scarce 'New York / Panama Transit' duplex (Sept 3) on front and reverse with Nantes arrival cds (Sept 17). A rare cover - this rate was in use from April to December 1879 only: the agreed rate with the UPU was 12 centavos for a single weeight letter. Due to the state of Peru's economy and galloping inflation within the country, the rate was raised to 27 centavos.
