Underpaid by 20 centimes and struck with AFFRANCHISEMENT / INSUFFISANT in red. Cover marked with '0.50' (francs) in manuscript - the calculation done at parity (1 centime = 1 lepta) - and the letter charged at 50 lepta to pay (90 lepta for unpaid cover, less 40 centimes = 50 centimes / lepta due). Franked by 1862/67 10 l. bright orange on greenish and 40 l. lilac on blued tied by 'Hydra' cds's (Jan 27, julian). A few small imperfections but an unusual and extremely scarce cover. Doge of Venice (1585-1595): Eleven line Vellum manuscript starting with "Pascalis Ciconia dei gra(cia) dux Veneciensis ex fidelis" etc. with archive notes on top and bottom: 'die faeta fuit mano' (acknowledged by hand). Although the official lead seal is missing, a fine early document. Although the official lead seal is missing, a fine early document with attached transcription on Cert. Bolaffi ( 2000). The reign of Cornaro as Doge was the shortest of any Doges.
