Underpaid by 20 centimes and struck with AFFRANCHISEMENT / INSUFFISANT in red. Cover marked with '0.50' (francs) in manuscript - the calculation done at parity (1 centime = 1 lepta) - and the letter charged at 50 lepta to pay (90 lepta for unpaid cover, less 40 centimes = 50 centimes / lepta due). Franked by 1862/67 10 l. bright orange on greenish and 40 l. lilac on blued tied by 'Hydra' cds's (Jan 27, julian). A few small imperfections but an unusual and extremely scarce cover. Doge of Venice (1585-1595): Eleven line Vellum manuscript starting with "Pascalis Ciconia dei gra(cia) dux Veneciensis ex fidelis" etc. with archive notes on top and bottom: 'die faeta fuit mano' (acknowledged by hand). Although the official lead seal is missing, a fine early document. One of his greatest successes was converting the Rialto Bridge, one of Venice's major landmarks and the only bridge over the Grand Canal of Venice, from wood to stone between 1588 and 1591.
