Large Star, imperforate, a fine used example, close to large margins all round, of vivid colour, struck with large part CANCELLED obliterator in black by Perkins Bacon, when donating the six stamps to Rowland Hill's nephew Ormonde Hill, an issue that led to the loss of Perkins Bacon's printing contract with many Colonies.     1854 (Feb): Laureated 1 d. red-orange on yellowish wove wmk'd paper, an unused block of twelve, positions 21-24/31-34/41-44, of outstanding fresh colour and with just touched to large margins all round, position 21 showing 'No Leaves to right of SOUTH' variety, central crease in margin between second and third vertical rows, horizontal gum crease at base, neither affecting the dramatic appearance of this rare multiple with near full browned original gum.     1900: Anglo-Boer War Patriotic Fund, the accepted Essay by F. Elliott for the 1 d. (6 d.) value, handpainted on thick board, 115 x 188 mm., in brown, grey, pale yellow, deep brown and Chinese white, and signed at lower right by the artist. A dramatic and particularly wonderful Essay, believed to be one of the two surviving handpainted Essays for Queensland issues. Reverse with pencil annotations "Channel 1/20 wide outside design" and dated "4.5.00". An exhibition item (fits nicely on an album page) of the highest calibre.

W. Gray, M.L.C., with the Postmaster General's compliments'. The document neatly cut in half, presumably for easier display, and without doubt one of the most charming Proof pages of Australian States recorded.

Near finished State of the Die with letters 'J' and 'L' inserted above figures '6' at each side (but with damaged 'D' in 'Duty' which was repaired), these letters standing for Charles Jackson and Ludwig Lang who designed much of the 1879 Stamp Duty series. Unfinished State of the Die with letters 'J' and 'L' missing from the top corners, these letters standing for Charles Jackson and Ludwig Lang who designed much of the 1879 Stamp Duty series. Gibbs states, on page 100 of the handbook, that just two pairs are recorded and notes this pair and illustrates the other (#80 / 75). Fresh and very fine, an extremely rare pair.
