    Incoming from Austria 1862: Unpaid cover from Trieste to Calamata, endorsed "Col Vapore", struck by TRIEST despatch (July 19) cds, on arrival charged '75' lepta in red crayon and franked with 1861 Paris Printing 5 l. yellow-green and 40 l. mauve on blue in combination with 1861/62 First Athens printing 10 l. orange and 20 l. blue, a fine four-colour franking with fresh colour and good to large margins, all tied by '31' numeral of Kalmata, reverse with ATHENS transit cds. The Austrian debited the Greek postal administration "3 / 15" soldi in manuscript, for the local Trieste rate and the Lloyd' shipmail, respectively, the resulting 55 lepta plus the 20 lepta inland rate were charged to the receiver. The 'Biscione' is a heraldic symbol showing an azure serpent in the act of eating or giving birth to a human.     1852 (12.Oct.): 40c black on light blue (azzuro chiaro) paper, upper marginal example with full to ample margins all round, tied to letter from "PARMA" to "ANNONAY" by "PARMA 12 OTTOBRE" three line cachet. The letter bears two unclear French transit marks, a RAYON mark "T.S.1." and an arrival ANNONAY (16. Oct.) on the reverse. Oct.): 5c deep blue-green (verde azurro scuro) and 5c. blue-green (verde azurro) provisional Government 1859 issue first print, two horizontal pairs, right hand pair with part adjoining stamps at bottom and only just touched on left on entire letter from PARMA to PADUA. The right pair is tied by the PARMA datestamp (22. Oct. 1859). A tax mark has been applied to the front, a transit MILANO (24. Oct.) and an arrival mark PADOVA (25/10) can be found on the reverse.  An immensely beautiful letter of great philatelic importance for the Provisional Government collector, it has been signed by a host of philatelic experts, beginning with Bolaffi, Enzo Diena and others. Certificates Bolaffi (1963) and Colla (2015).

    1859 (28. Dec.) 40c. vermillion and 10c. brown, "Provisional Government", two generously margined copies on charming entire from "PARMA" to "PARIS". The stamps are tied by a single strike of the "PARMA" cds. (28.Dec.), a  "PD" in black and a beautifully contrasting French transit mark "SARDAIGNE CULOZ" (31.Dec.) in red have been carefully applied to the front of the envelope. A "TORINO" (29. Dec.) transit and and arrival mark Paris complete the documentation of the handling of this extremely rare letter. Minor staining can only be described as insignificant, as foreign mail from the Provisional Government period is known only in minute quantites. Signatures Bolaffi, A. and E. Diena.
