The previous owner of the cover believed that a second stamp, probably a 3 d. adhesive was lost in transit, possibly before reaching Melbourne where the due marking was applied. However there is no evidence as to where the 3 d. adhesive was placed unless applied over the selvedge at right. This describer believes the cover was correctly franked for the Trieste rate for a ¼ ounce letter and whilst the endorsement was altered, no further stamps were applied for the Brindisi increment.
