    1920 (Mar./Oct.): 10 c. green "pilots and plane", part proof sheet of 68 on white chalky paper instead the issued yellowish paper, only missing the SE bottom corner block of four. The reverse bears an affidavit by the printer, countersigned by a notary and a government official that the sheet was printed by Sr. Valiente. Some minor faults but a remarkable correspondence of letters giving a fascinating insight to Church business in Ecuador.

    1880: Postal Receipt waybill for mail from Guatemala City entrusted to Postal Courier Agustin Mencos dated at base "Guatemala, Setiembre 13, 1880", showing 1 'Paquete' (Parcel) for San José and Puntarenas (Costa Rica), 2 'Balijas' (Mailbags) for the Postal Agent (the Guatemalan Consul in Panama) and a further Paquete bound for California; and manuscript acknowledgement of receipt at base "Received exact on September 14th at 8½ a.m., Fred.o King". Mail was taken by mules as far as Escuintla and thence by train to the port of San José. Rare.

    1884: "Rail Bond", a complete form (355 x 430 mm.) for the years 1884-1893, for public funding of President Barrios's scheme for the building of the "Northern Railroad" from Guatemala City to the Caribbean, stamped up with four examples of the unoverprinted 1 peso vermilion each handstamped PAGADO in violet (one stamp missing). The bond plan was for each completed form, the bearer would get 40 pesos worth of shares. However, President Barrios was killed fighting Salvadorean forces at the Battle of Chalchuapa in April 1885 and the project abandoned. The 1 peso was later utilised in 1886 for the surcharged 'Rail Bond' issue. An extraordinary survivor and rare.

    1887: UPU 'Avis de Réception' printed form for a registerede / AR letter from Quetzaltenango to Launceston, Tasmania (extraordinary destination at this date) with framed "CERTIFICADO / QUETZALTENANGO" despatch in violet (Nov 3), partial transit of San Francisco (Nov 27) in red and "Launceston / Tasmania" arrival cds (Jan 13, 1888) in black. Sold together with a list from the Guatemalan Post Office showing that just 5 registered letters to Australia were sent in 1887, the AR form itself believed unique from a provincial Post Office.

    1871 (March 1): First Issue 1 c. ochre and 5 c. bistre-brown, used on 1871 entire letter from Guatemala City to Finca Venecia, Mazatenango cancelled by unclear '1' numeral obliterator in black with "Correos / Guatemala" despatch cds at left (Dec 30). Despite some overall toning and soiling, a very rare entire used in the first ten months of issue prior to the 'Reales' currency being reintroduced on 26 January 1872. A rarity of the first issue with just a handful of covers recorded (see Goodman page 52). Cert. BPA (2021).

    1871 (March 1): 1 c. ochre on buff and 5 c. bistre-brown, used on 1871 cover to Ramon Rodriguez in Mazatenango, tied by numeral "1" obliterator in black with "Correos / Guatemala" circular datestamp at right (Oct 28) in black. File fold well away from the adhesives, cleaned but of exceptional rarity, the companion cover was in Hubbard (lot 96) and Castilejo (lot 1024) which was identically franked and mailed one week before this example. Goodman records five first issue covers with the 1 centavo adhesive, including this example, however a further example has come to light (F-W Lange collection) since the handbook was published; of these six covers just three were used in the 'decimal' period (March 1 1871 until January 26, 1872) prior to Guatemala reverting to their former currency in January 1872 and there are only two recorded 6 centavo internal frankings.
