    Messageries Impériales 1876 (Sept 19): Entire letter from Carupano to Santander, Spain, franked by France 1871/75 Cérès 30 c. brown, two horizontal pairs, one with faults, tied by octagonal "COL. FR. / PAQ. FR. B. No. 4" datestamps (Sept 30) in black (Salles fig. 1446). The "COL. FR." datestamp deleted (as Venezuela was not a French Colony) and "LIGNE B / PAQ. FR. No. 4" substituted (Sept 30) in b lack (Salles fig. 1432). Initially carried on Ligne E "Desirade" to Fort de France and thence by Ligne B "Ville de Brest" to St. Nazaire. Taxed on arrival with circular "1P 30" due marking in blue. Illustrated in Edition D'Or 59 on page 155. Imperfections but an entire of delightful appearance.

    The 'Paquete' Post of St. Thomas - La Guaira - Puerto Cabello 1866 (Oct 8): Entire letter from Puerto Cabello to Bordeaux at single rate, endorsed "per RM Str." struck with superb circular "ST. THOMAS LA GUAYRA & Po. CABELLO STEAM PACKET" cachet in black (used in lieu of adhesive stamps during shortages), carried on the Robert Todd Steamer "Honfleur" to St. Thomas, thence on the RMSP "Shannon" to Southampton. London cds in red on reverse (Oct 29) and 'GB / 1F 60 c.' Accountancy marking in black applied. Charged '10' décimes due upon receipt (Oct 31). Illustrated in Edition D'Or 59 on page 156. Rare. Cert. A magnificent and rare usage, very few "yellows" are recorded on letter, Everaldo Santos AIEP recorded just 6 covers (one was in the 'Gregory Frantz' sale in January 2021 in Corinphila).     1808 (Feb 28): Colonial cover from Trujillo, Peru to Madrid, Spain endorsed "Por Buenos Ayres" and fully dated at top on despatch in manuscript and weight notification "1 oz, 6 grams"; struck with fine "TRUXILLO" (Guinovart & Tizón 1 = RR) and "PERU" straight line despatch in red. The cover would have kept to the Pacific coastline, thence round the Magellan Straits to Buenos Ayres and North across the Atlantic. Rated '4' silver reales due in manuscript upon receipt. A most attractive and rare cover.

    1819 (Oct 20): Colonial entire letter from Lima to Valencia, Spain, endorsed "Por Caratxa" (Cartagena, Colombia), struck on despatch with superb "PERU" in red. Carried on the Quito-Santa Fé-Cartagena route and thence by ship to Havana and Cadiz. Charged due upon arrival with large "8Rs." handstamp in red. Illustrated in Edition D'Or 59 on page 179. A fine and rare entire: the routing discontinued upon Independence in the following year.

Elderedge sailing ship), docketed in the same hand "P. à Chagres ½ oz., 3" (Paid at Chagres for ½ oz, 3 reales). French P.O. at Panama applied "AMER. SUD / PANAMA" daatestamp on arrival (May 24) in red on reverse and Consular "PANAMA / *" circular datestamp (June 9) on obverse. Thence to Kingston on Steamer "Liffey" where struck with superb circular "SOUTH AMERICA / VIA PANAMA" handstamp and "Kingston / Jamaica" transit (June 25). Thence via "Trent" to Bermuda and the "Medway" to Southampton, with London arrival (Aug 6). Illustrated in Edition D'Or 59 on page 182. Carried on the vessel "Portales" to Callao. Illustrated in Edition D'Or 59 on page 183. Rare and very fine.rnNote: With the absence of docketing, one must assume the cover to be an 1844 usage. However it is known the datestamp broke in 1843 or 1844 and the '43' or '44' slugs were never changed during the life of the cancellation thereafter. Carried on the PSNC Steamer "Ecuador" to Callao with internal docketing of receipt (May 7). Illustrated in Edition D'Or 59 on page 185.     PSNC 1865: Cover from Santiago to Lima, Peru endorsed "por Vapor", franked by 1861/62 10 c. blue, three margins, just touched, and 20 c. green, four single examples with good even margins all round tied by four strikes of the 'Cancelled' obliterator in black. SANTIAGO despatch cds in red at right (Aug 16). On arrival in Lima (Aug 26, datestamp on reverse), the cover was marked '3' in blue crayon for triple rate and handstruck "30 / CENTAVOS" applied in black together with oval CONDUCCION / DEL CARTERO / GRATIS in black (free delivery). A rare and most attractive franking - the cover weighed 1½ ounces, thus a Chilean sextuple rate and the letter required 30 centavos to Valparaiso and a further 60 centavos for the PSNC rate of 10 c. per ½ ounce. A rare cover, illustrated in Edition D'Or 59 on page 188. Certs. The letter, written in English, mentions the Steamer "Cloda" would be carrying the Mail and also mentions many enclosures which accounts for the 90 centavos rate.
