PSNC & RMSP 1858: Entire letter from Lima to Paris endorsed "via di Panama e Inglaterra", franked by March 1858 1 d. blue, huge margins all round and portion of adjoining stamp at left, tied by dotted oval LIMA despatch in blue. Reverse with CALLAO double arc cds (March 12). Carried on PSNC Steamer to Panama and thence by RMSP "Thames" to St. Thomas and per "Magdalena" to Southampton. Struck in London (April 19) with "GB / 2F 87½c." accountancy marking and thence via Calais to Paris where charged '12' décimes due. The earliest recorded usage of the Peru First Issue and thus the earliest recorded usage of the issue carried overseas. Illustrated in Edition D'Or 59 on page 215.
