Scarce.

    1841 (April 7): Partially prepaid cover to Trieste struck with superb SMIRNA straight line handstamp in black (Tchilinghirian fig. 1). Marked at base 'Col Piroscafo del Lloyd' with manuscript '31+40+36=1/17 (sic), which does not indicate the rate for this latter but more probably a batch of letters, the charge for this being '25½' kreuzer = 22 kr ship rate + 2 kr. local delivery + 1½ kr. for disinfection on arrival.

    1842 (Aug 9): Merchant's entire letter from Smirna to Constantinople struck with rectangular framed DDSG / P.P / SMYRNE handstamp (Tchilinghirian unrecorded) in black. D.D.S.G. ships were permitted to carry 'port-to-port' mail, this letter being sent three years prior to the Lloyd Agency take-over of the Mediterranean lines, was carried on the newly introduced (1839) Constantinople-Haifa-Alexandria line. Some minor edge wear but a rare and splendid entire.

    Alexandretta 1856 (March 8): Entire letter from Alexandretta to Aleppo, struck on arrival in Aleppo with intaglio seal handstamp (Tchilinghirian fig. 1) with Roman ".L.A." at top, the inscription reading "From the Austrian Post Aleppo, 1855". This seal cancellation was withdrawn during 1856 and remains one of the rarest markings of Austrian Levant postal history.

Also 1866 entire letter franked by 1 d. red, two 2 d. blue pl. 9 and 1865 6 d. lilac pl. 5 also mailed via Kustendje.

    1865 (June 22): Cover from Constantinople to London franked by Levant 1864 15 s. brown, perf. 9½, three examples all tied by floral CONSTANTINOPEL datestamps (Tchilinghirian fig. 385) and by London arrival (June 30) cds in red. 'Weit Franco 14' in red at right applied in Vienna indicating the cover was paid 14 kreuzer beyond the Prussian frontier (Van Der Linden fig. 2972). Some ageing but an attractive franking.
