    1803 (March 24): Colonial entire letter from Guayaquil to Quito rated '2' in manuscript with fine condensed GVAYAQUI straight line handstamp in red (Harris type 2). Holes at left where stitched into the archive, a scarce and early entire.

Receipted internally, a fine and most attractive cover.

    1865: ½ r. blue and an irregular block of five 1 r. yellow on white wove paper, margins just clear on the ½ r. and the block with large margins all round, used on circa 1870 judicial cover to Riobamba endorsed '11¾ ozs.' at top, cancelled by AMBATO datestamps (July 18) in black. It would appear the Postal authorities forgave the additional ¾ ounce in this instance. Fresh and fine, a most attractive cover.

No. 2 datestamp (May 4) beautifully struck in black (Salles fig. 1383) at base of cover. Carried on the 'Ville de Brest' and reverse with circular LIGNE F / PAQ. FR.     1865: 1 r. dark green, an unused block of four in a magnificent deep shade, ample to large margins all round, positions 4-5 / 13-14 on the sheet of 90 subjects, first stamp (position 4) showing Plate Flaw "Double Frameline" at base, one or two minor bends and trivial aging on large part og., hinged to card for display. A wonderful and extremely rare multiple with a defective block of fourteen (ex Crown Point) and just two blocks of four of this stamp recorded in mint condition, this being the finer.     1865: 1 r. green, a block of six in a deep shade, used on 1867 folded cover to Latacunga, the block with margins clear to fine all round and imperceptibly touched on just one stamp, positions 64-65 / 73-74 / 82-83, all tied by 64 dot lozenge and two strikes of the circular 'Guaranda' datestamp (Jan 30) in black. Refolded but with weight notation '2 lbs. 12 ozs.' inside - correctly rated at 24 reales for 48 ounces. A rare and wonderful cover in superb quality.

The cover with closed tear at right but an extraordinary franking with the entire first issue of perforated adhesives.

    1896 (Oct): Surcharged 5 c. on 20 c. orange, a strip of four used with '1897 1898' overprinted 1894 5 c. green pair and, on reverse 2 c. yellow brown in a strip of four and UPU 1897 1 c. rose (2) all used on 1897 registered cover at 44 grams weight to Manila, Phlippines tied by Quito datestamps in black. Ecuador despatch registered label and both New York and San Francisco (July 19) registration labels applied in transit. The cover sensibly opened for Exhibit display, a most unusual make-up of the 40 centavos rate to an unusual destination.
