Sensibly cleaned but a splendid cover, illustrated in Tchilinghirian on page 516 who states "Steindler has six covers with this cancellation, with just one bearing the 10 kr. red", which he retained for his collection. The finest of the two known strikes both from the same correspondence, this handstamp omitted by Ringström & Tester as the cancellation omits the "DDSG" (found on examples from Constantinople, Galatz and Ibraila), the handstamp erroneously shown in Tchilinghirian on page 524 but properly recorded by Edwin Müller (#2151a) who would have recorded this cover in Franz See's collection.     Austrian Lloyd Offices in the Dobrudja 1848 (June): Entire letter from Tulcea to Patras, Greece endorsed "via Cospoli" at lower left, struck on despatch with fine strike of oval framed "AGENZIA DEL LLOYD AUSTRIACO / Tulcia" in blue (Tchilinghirian fig. 836). Circular "Constantinople / Turquie" French P.O. of transit (June 17), reverse with Piraeus, Athens and Patras datestamps (June 10j). Disinfected with two chisel slits and charged "90" lepta due in red crayon. The earliest recorded usage of this rare cancellation (Tchilinghirian "no material recorded from the 1845-1848 period") and very fine.
