    William Wyon 1837: The "Wyon City Medal" struck to commemorate Queen Victoria's accession to the throne and her visit to the City of London in 1837, examples (2), one in Bronze and the much rarer example struck in Silver and inscribed "In honour of Her Majesty's Visit to the Corporation of London 9th Nov. 1837". The head struck by William Wyon was to be copied by Henry Corbould and utilised for all the stamps and Postal Stationery issued in Great Britain until 1901.

    Charles Whiting 'Forerunners' Lottery Handbills 1817/1826: Advertising Handbills and Lottery 'puffs', the small group of 10 items all printed by Charles Whiting, many in association with Thomas Bish, with 1817 illustrated Lottery handbill ("Buy a whole ticket you may build a mansion...become a Member of Parliament"), 1825 elaborate red and blue bicoloured notice for April 12th draw printed by the Congreve Compound Plate process, 1825 illustrated handbill for July 15th draw, bicoloured red and green handbill for October 18th draw with Whiting & Branston imprint (two different), 1826 embossed lottery card in pink, blue & brown for March 1st draw with same imprint, 1826 handbills (2) in two or three colours for the (postponed) 3rd May and 18th July draws with imprints and handbill for the final lottery draw held on October 18th. Thereafter the Lotteries were closed down by Act of Parliament, led by William Wilberforce.

    Charles Whiting 1832/49: Early work by Whiting which led to the introduction of the Congreve compound plate procedure of the Beaufort House Press, with examples (4) of combined embossed and printed productions: 1832 "Licence for a Hawker" issued by Somerset House with superb black and white embossing at top with £ 8 value in oval 'WR IV' (William IV), with brown and blue surround, issued at Northallerton; and a similar (£ 4) form with engine turning in black & red issued in Hawick; 1836 beautifully embossed share certificate with embossed Coat of Arms in red & white imprinted "Whiting Patent" for "The Duke of Launceston's Harbour" and "Launceston & Victoria Railway Co.", together with 1849 Indian Customs Duty Bill for 58 gallons of Brandy printed in black and red on 'Stamp Office" watermarked paper. A highly decorative group.

    Charles Whiting 1837/39: Embossed cameo portraits of the young Queen Victoria from the drawings by R.J. Lane ARA, executed for Victoria's 18th birthday with Crown above, a circular design on card with oak leaf surround in pink (98 x 120 mm.), a further printing with elaborate border design encompassing 'Whiting Patent' and facsimile signature at base in grey (*), a bicoloured design of the cameo head on green and orange backgrounds with Royal Coat of Arms below the portrait (believed unique **), together with three different album page sized portraits in black of Lane's portrait.     Charles Whiting 1839: Album page size embossed cameo portraits (2) submitted to the Treasury Department as examples of Whiting's embossing (135 x 180 mm.) with one design showing cameo head of Queen Adelaide on red with gold and green surround, this being the rarest design from the book "Royal Cameo Embossed Heads" published by Kendall & Son of London; the second example with Thomas Moore cameo head with brown and green surround, each showing "Whiting Patentee" in the wonderful cameo scrollwork. Exceptional and of great scarcity.

It should be noted that these Tax stamps pre-date Swedish postage stamp by nearly 8 years (7 items).

    Charles Whiting 1848: Essays by Charles Whiting printed by the Congreve process to illustrate an article by Robert Hunt on Compound Plate printing in the "Art Journal", showing oval "PAID" postal stationery type design with the young Queen Victoria head in pink above two 'Treasury Essays' and a wonderful scrolled design and engine-turning in steel-blue applied over elaborate cameo work to green surround (218 x 271 mm.). Some very minor soiling but a delightful and iconic example of Whiting's work.
