Charles Whiting 1832/49: Early work by Whiting which led to the introduction of the Congreve compound plate procedure of the Beaufort House Press, with examples (4) of combined embossed and printed productions: 1832 "Licence for a Hawker" issued by Somerset House with superb black and white embossing at top with £ 8 value in oval 'WR IV' (William IV), with brown and blue surround, issued at Northallerton; and a similar (£ 4) form with engine turning in black & red issued in Hawick; 1836 beautifully embossed share certificate with embossed Coat of Arms in red & white imprinted "Whiting Patent" for "The Duke of Launceston's Harbour" and "Launceston & Victoria Railway Co.", together with 1849 Indian Customs Duty Bill for 58 gallons of Brandy printed in black and red on 'Stamp Office" watermarked paper.
