1854, Registered, 1 s. rose-pink and blue, used on registered cover, from Geelong to London, touching top left otherwise good to large margins, endorsed "Per the Antelope Steamer", dated 15 December 1854, tied by "2/V" cancel in black, rated at 1 shilling in red for ship letter and additional 1 shilling in black for incoming packet and UK regsitration, oblong "TOO LATE" in red alongside, with London "PAID" 17 March 1855 also to front, to reverse Geelong, Melbourne and London marks, small tear top, slight soiling, scarce early use of this stamp, rare cover; the prepayment of postage with stamps became compolsory from 1st January 1855, a usage like this could only occur during this month. Melbourne despatch cds on reverse (July 16) in black. The contents refer to a Mr. Booth's request for a Coat of Arms and his requirements (three Boar's Heads). The stamps with one or two imperfections but a fine four colour franking for the 1/9d. rate; London arrival (Sept 14) in red on obverse.
