    1859 (Sept): Unpaid manifest for a cattle fair, sent from Bologna to Bazzano, taxed inside with '½' bajoccho due, bearing outside as due ½ baj. 'giallo paglia', a fine and fresh single example with good colour and large even margins all round, tied by Papal-style grill obliterator. A clear straight-line BAZZANO handstamp was struck alongside. A most interesting item showing the usage of the Romagna adhesives as due, signed Emilio Diena; A. Bolaffi; certs. A. Diena (1968), E.     1859 (Sept): ½ baj. 'giallo paglia', the upper right half of a diagonally bisected stamp attached to a full example, the multiple of 1½ adhesives with large to enormous margins all round with parts of the neighbouring stamp, fresh and fine with good colour, tied by grill obliterator with "BOLOGNA 28 NOV 59" despatch cds alongside, on cover within Bologna. Lightest vertical and horizontal file folds well away from the adhesives, a most attractive and correct franking for a local letter with 0.75 bajocchi reflecting the 3 centesimi rate. An attractive cover from the second day of this issue in the special rate from the Emilia to the Romagna (between Faenza and Rimini), valid only in the two months of September and October 1859, signed A.     1859 (Sept): 5 baj. violetto and left marginal 1 baj. 'bruno grigio', two fine and fresh adhesives with good to large margins all round, cancelled by mute grill obliterator on  cover from Cesena to Roma. The obverse is struck by straight-line CESENA handstamp, reverse with "ROMA 13 SET. 59" arrival cds. Cover with some toning, not distracting from this attractive and interesting item full of postal history content incl. a usage in the second week of the Romagna issue. Signed A. Diena, Grioni; cert. E. Diena (1983) Sassone = € 18'500.rnNote: The cover was correctly paid for a letter of the second Papal rayon including Roma & Comarca. However the franking with Romagna - definitives was not accepted by the Papal postal authorities as the Romagna was still regarded as being part of the Papal states. Therefore the cover was regarded as unpaid and taxed with '6' bajocchi.

Reverse with framed Trieste (Feb 3) arrival datestamp in red.
