Lot# 6392 - Auction 284 - 290

  • Lot# : 6392 Romagna

    1 / 1
1859 (Sept): 5 baj. violetto and left marginal 1 baj. 'bruno grigio', two fine and fresh adhesives with good to large margins all round, cancelled by mute grill obliterator on  cover from Cesena to Roma. The obverse is struck by straight-line CESENA handstamp, reverse with "ROMA 13 SET. 59" arrival cds. Cover with some toning, not distracting from this attractive and interesting item full of postal history content incl. a usage in the second week of the Romagna issue. Signed A. Diena, Grioni; cert. E. Diena (1983) Sassone = € 18'500.rnNote: The cover was correctly paid for a letter of the second Papal rayon including Roma & Comarca. However the franking with Romagna - definitives was not accepted by the Papal postal authorities as the Romagna was still regarded as being part of the Papal states. Therefore the cover was regarded as unpaid and taxed with '6' bajocchi.
