Both folded for display, an attractive Colonial pairing.

    British P.O.'s 1840 (Sept 1): Cover from Bogotá to London endorsed 'pr R.S.Sanchez, Cartagena' in manuscript at lower left, struck with oval BOGOTÁ / FRANCA and rate mark "3" (reales) in red. Mailed on to British Packet at Cartagena with further manuscript notation on front "Forwarded per H.M. Packet via Kingston, Jamaica", and struck with KINGSTON / JAMAICA cds in black on reverse (Sept 14). On arrival in Falmouth "CARTHAGENA / O" Fleuron applied in red with London cds of arrival (Oct 29) in red, where rated '2/3d.' due to pay. A fine and rare cover that displays well.

    1859: 5 c. violet-blue, 10 c. red-brown and 20 c. bright blue, the magnificent three-colour usage on December 1859 cover from Bogotá to Ambalema, with Mauricio Rizo sender's cachet in red at upper left and the adhesives boldly tied by BOGOTÁ opera-glass handstamps in black. Manuscript docketing of receipt inside 'Diciembre 19, 1859'. One of just two recorded first issue covers with a three colour franking and the finer of the two, illustrated in Bortfeldt "Colombia Philatelic Handbook & Catalogue, 1859-1968" on page 11. This famous and exceptional cover has graced many of the finest collections ever formed of this classic country and is one of the paramount rarities of classic South American and World philately.     1871/74: 10 c. lilac, a single example with large even margins all round, used on reverse of 1876 cover to France cancelled at "Purificacion" in manuscript and also tied by circular 'Ligne A / Paq. Fr. No. 2' datestamp (March 3) in black (Salles fig. 1401) and carried on the 'Ville de Bordeaux'. Obverse with octagonal SAVANILLA Consular datestamp in black and struck wih triangular 'T' mark and charged '12' décimes due to pay. Some edge wear to envelope but an unusual cover sent contrary to regulations.

    1935 (Jan 26): 3rd National Olympic Games, Barranquilla; the wonderful collection with the set of 16 values all in unused blocks of four (all are marginal, eleven values are in corner marginal blocks), 5 c. darkbrown & yellow in an "Imperforate Vertically Between" unused block of four, 50 c. ultramarine & buff in a used pair "Imperforate Horizontally Between" (unlisted by Scott or Gibbons), 1 p. strip of five on piece used, 5 peso in a used strip three; surrounded by covers (24) including the complete set used on cover to Hamburg on fifth day of issue (extraordinarily rare), frankings showing usages with 2 c., 4 c., 5 c., 7 c., 8 c., 10 c. (incl. commercial usage to Chile in first week of issue), 12 c., 15 c., 20 c., and 50 c. values. A superb collection which would make a splendid award winning 'One Frame' Exhibit Gi 461/476 = £ 10'600+/Scott = $ 9'250+.
