60 reis black, Late Early Impression horizontal pair with enormous margins all round (Second Large Plate, positions 17-18), used on July 1844 entire letter from Montevideo/Uruguay to the U.S. Consul in Rio Grande, with cover endorsed "Vapor" at lower left. Carried privately from Montevideo to the care of a Forwarding Agent, with reverse showing "Rio de Janeiro, Aug 29, forwarded by C. Coleman & Co.", who applied the adhesives which are neatly tied by bold "Correio Geral Da Corte" datestamp (Aug 30) in black, paying the 'By Sea' rate of 120 reis. Some splitting on one file fold mentioned for accuracy, otherwise a marvellous and extremely rare entire in paramount condition-certainly one of the prettiest Bulls Eye covers-and one of the great rarities of South American Maritime philately, this being the earliest entire letter from Uruguay bearing an adhesive postage stamp. 1844 (March 29): Entire letter written from Hamburg to Rio Grande, carried privately to London, there prepaid "2/9 d." in manuscript at upper left and struck with London Tombstone datestamp in red (April 1) on obverse. Reverse with "London / F.B.O." (Foreign Branch Office) datestamp of April 3 in black, and mailed on to Rio de Janeiro per ship "Express" with British Post Office arrival datestamp (May 16) in black also on front. Forwarded from Rio de Janeiro with manuscript "Forwarded by C. Coleman & Co." who applied the adhesives - a horizontal pair of 1843 Early Worn Impression 60 reis grey, close to ample magins all round neatly tied by "Correio Geral Da Corte" datestamp (May 30) in black. Docketing of receipt inside (August 6). A magnificent Bulls Eye usage on incoming letter that opens well for Exhibit display. 90 reis grey, Worn Impression, the superb horizontal used pair from the upper left corner of the pane, Second Composoite plate, State D, positions 1-2, showing the full marginal lines vertically and horizontally, with "Semi-Xifopagus" dividing line to the 60 reis pane 4.5 mm. above and part of adjoining stamp below position 2; applied to reverse of cleaned July 1844 entire letter at triple rate from Rio de Janeiro to Porto Alegre tied by bold CORREIO GERAL DA CORTE datestamp (July 3) in black. The stamps have been lifted for checking, cleaned and replaced (which has to be deemed normal for Brazilian classic covers) and opens for display well. An extremely rare entire.  Left hand stamp affected by a flattened vertical crease and offered as is Tel quel - Signed Calves. Certs. Holcombe (1994), Moorhouse (2013). 60 reis black, Early Impression on yellowish paper, used as seal on reverse of September 1844 entire letter from Villa de Lavras to Rio de Janeiro, Tixeira correspondence, the adhesive overlapping the entire and has been cleaned and is just touched by file fold, but with four margins and showing vertical marginal line at right, tied by the sole recorded usage on cover of the framed V. DE LAVRAS oval handstamp in brown (Ayres 1529). The entire somewhat aged but opens well for Exhibit display. A rarity. Cert. 60 reis grey-black, Intermediate Impression, a fine four margined example used on reverse of 1852 entire letter from Cuiaba to Rio de Janeiro, tied by bold strike of rare CORREIO GERAL DE CUIABA handstamp in magenta (Ayres 1139) with manuscript date "October 13, 1852". Exceptional and rare late usage of the Bulls Eye issue-although Cuiaba is known for the late usages (see also Edition D'Or, Alemany collection, page 25). 90 reis grey-black on greyish paper, vertical pair from Second Composite plate, positions 8/14, used in combination with 60 reis black, Early Impression on yellowish paper, Second Composite plate, position 3 on 1845 entire letter from the Pedrick correspondence from Rio de Janiero to Rio Grande. The entire endorsed "per Vapor" at lower left and stamps pre-paying the double ship rate of 240 reis, tied by blurred "Correio Geral Da Corte" datestamps in black (April 3). The 90 reis has an internal repair where damaged on opening and some overall soiling  to the entire but a significant and extremely rare letter. Signed Calves and Goebel; cert. 30 reis grey, Worn Impression on yellowish paper, a horizontal pair used on 1843 entire letter to Lavras, Minas showing the considerable plate wear during the first month of issue, the entire clearly dated August 28, 1843 and folded for Exhibit display cancelled by by CORREIO GERAL DA CORTE / 29-8-1843 datestamp in black. The pair with large margins all round, has been removed from the back of the cover and re-affixed. Despite the small faults (reduced vertical crease through the right stamp) a dramatic and rare first month of use entire, of which only three are recorded. Certs. RPS (1996), Moorhouse (2013). 90 reis black, late Early Impression from Second Composite plate, State B, position 13 with 30 reis black Early Impression from Second Composite plate, State B, position 7; applied to reverse of 1844 ship rate cover from Bahia to a Mr. Vollenweider in Rio de Janeiro tied by CORREIO DE BAHIA datestamp (February 3) in black (Ayres 1605), with repeated strike of datestamp on the obverse. The 30 reis and 90 reis adhesives with vertical marginal lines, the 90 reis showing retouching to frame and vignette. Just three recorded Bulls Eyes covers are known from Bahia, this being the finest. Rare. Signed Bühler; cert. RPS (1995), Moorhouse (2013). Provenance: Collection Norman S. 90 reis grey-black, Early Impression, the famous block of nine and a single example from Second Composite plate, State B, positions 9-12/14-18, all used on piece and showing the vertical and horizontal marginal lines at right and at base, the lower left stamp with the vertical marginal line continuing 6 mm downwards. Overall toning and two positions with creasing and fault on position 16 of no importance; cancelled with six strikes of the framed MARICA handstamps (Ayres 1356) in brown. 90 reis milky grey, Worn Impression on thin greyish paper, a used lower marginal horizontal pair with 10 mm margin below the outer horizontal frame line, in an extraordinary watery shade, cancelled by framed CIDADE DE NICTHEROY handstamp in black (Ayres 1371). The pair does not 'plate' by Napier. A most interesting and unusual multiple. The pair is according to the newly issued Certificitate by Brian Moorhouse "extensively cleaned" and will be offered Tel quel.Certs. Juchert (2001) Moorhouse (2012).
