Mailed on to Cape Town and backstamped 'Crocodile Pools / South Africa' (April 20), 'Bulawayo / Rhodesia' (April 23) and squared circle 'G.P.O. Cape Town / CGH' arrival (May 6). Cover creased due to the method of carriage but not affecting the fine adhesive. A great rarity.

    Vryburg (Boer Occupation) 1899 (Nov 25): Cape surcharged "Z.A.R.", the set of four values, ½ d. green, 1 d. rose, 2 d. on 6 d. mauve and 2½ d. pale blue all used on 1899 cover sent registered to the Postmaster in Johannesburg, each stamp tied by VRYBURG datestamps (Nov 28) in black. Schweizer-Reneke (Jan 6) and Johannesburg arrival on reverse (Jan 11, 1900). Pencil line from registration touches the 1 d. and vertical creasing to the envelope at left but a fine full set franking Gi = £ 1'100+.

The envelope slightly trimmed at right and creased at lower right but a most interesting addressee - Vere Stent was both the Reuters & Cape Times War Correspondent and was later to become editor of the Pretoria News.
