1895/96: De La Rue Imperforate photographic composite Essay for 2½ a. value, with uncoloured flags above the central vignette and without the fancy border, on card (90 x 115 mm.) lettered "A" at top and dated "Nov 18th 95" in ink, pencil manuscript "Copper plate". This submitted Essay was turned down on March 12, 1896 in favour of the stamps as issued (Essays marked 'AA' and 'BB' in the De La Rue files.
