    1951: Handpainted Essay for proposed 'Inauguration of the Farouk Canal' issue, prepared by Jean Boulad d'Humieres, the Suez Canal Co.'s PR Officer (and Fellow of the RPSL), 10 m. value in green, pale green and white painted by Boulad and by R. Bauchet showing Farouk, liner and lighthouse. The Essay was submitted and returned (Oct 16) as the King should be in Naval uniform and arabic dates were required. Neither the opening ceremony (due for November 11, 1951) nor the stamp issue, ever took place.

    1868: Suez Canal Company, the unbelievable and voluminous collection formed by the late Peter Bottrill, for the study of both the genuine and the extensive forgeries of this issue, with 1 c. black mint (22) with the four Transfer types, single used with 5129 gros chiffres, 5 c. green mint (28) with the four Transfer types, further 3 mint examples with La Croix Fréres papermaker's wmk., three examples cancelled in manuscript and one with 5129 g.c., 20 c. mint corner block of four, 28 further mint examples (all plated) and 25+ unplated, 1 with papermaker's wmk. mint, 3 used in mss., 3 with dotted blue cancel and 1 used with 5129 g.c., 40 c. rose-red mint (20) with the four Transfer types, another mint with papermaker's wmk. Also a Presentation set of four values mint as given to Muzzi Bey, the Egyptian Postmaster, the service was disliked by the Egyptians (as an infringement on their monopoly) and lasted just forty days in all. 1867 5 pa. yellow used with CANAL DE SUEZ / CHANTIER VI datestamp in blue (Aug 12, 1868) and Ismailia green Interpostal Seal with CHANTIER VI datestamp in black (Sept 3, 1868); fine cover to France bearing 1867 40 c. orange tied by 5129 gros chiffres in blue with dotted PORT SAID / EGYPTE cds at right (July 8, 1870) and CANAL DE SUEZ / KANTARA cds on reverse in black (July 4); thereafter with exhaustive classifications of the Forgeries from Venturini and Oneglia with forged cancels on genuine stamps, Saatjian forgeries incl. some on original pages for sale and a plating of the 8 types produced, forgeries by Fohl in sheets of 50 and of 100 and on covers,  Fournier, Moens cut-outs from illustrations, covers forged by Moustafa Ibrahim Bey, Spiro Brothers (with their sheets of 25 'used', single type forgeries in large blocks, Type 3 Forgery (so named as they are three types) in large blocks, lithographed 'used' forgeries caancelled byy impressing a copper Zanzibar coin on to the stamp, a forgery of a 10 c. value in black, splendid bogus covers, Canal ephemera, postcards and loose material awaiting mounting in stockbooks (including genuine examples in blue book), fine cover from Malta with Great Britain 1 d. red and 4 d. vermilion addressed to Ferdinand de Lesseps. A lifetime's study and a splendid collection.

    The Great Bitter Lakes & Suez Canal Locals 1967/75: The astonishing and huge collection formed by the late Peter Bottrill, with stamps produced on the 14 ships trapped in the Canal from June 5, 1967 until 1975 due to the Egypt / Israeli War. After sending home passengers by air and treating over 400 wounded Egyptian soldiers, the crews of the 14 ships were thereafter stuck in the Bitter Lakes. The Great Bitter Lake Assoc. produced it's own stamps of which this is probably the most complete collection extant. Myriads of covers (240+) in combination with Egyptian stamps, many covers accepted and delivered without Egyptian adhesives, covers received with 'Mail from the S.S.Nordwind / trapped in Suez since 1967' cachets or P.O. labels, extraordinary ephemera including Telegram home (dated 17 June, 1967) saying 'Safe and Well' from an electrician on the 'Melampus', 1968 and 1972 letters from the U.P.U. to Capt. Hill, (also his catalogue on the stamps issued is included with the lot), photographs of crew members etc. An extraordinary collection.
