    1934 (Jan 22): Postcard from Sieger to Buenos Aires with combination of Italy First Flight Rome / Buenos Aires 2 lire and 3 lire tied by viollet cachet and Libya definitive 50 c. and 1 lire tied by Tripoli cds's. Registered label tied by framed First Flight cachet in red at left.
    Note: On the flight from Dakar to Natale (Brazil) the Italian plane had troubles and approaching the coast attempted to land on a beach at Ceara near Fortaleza. It struck a large rock and over-turned. The mechanic and radio officer were both injured. The mail was salvaged undamaged and was embarked on the first direct postal flight between Rome and Buenos Aires with the special 'Volo' cachet.

    1852: 10 c. rose carmine, a delightful large margined strip of three used on 1858 cover to Uetersen, Denmark via Hamburg, all cancelled by Amsterdam half -round datestamps (Aug 5) in black. Straight line "ontoereikend" (Insufficient) finely struck at top as from January 1858 all covers from Netherlands to Denmark had to be fully paid to destination. Thus the adhesives were disregarded as payment and the cover was taxed with manuscript '5' in blue ink (2 sgr. Dutch and 3 sgr. German share), rounded up to '7' schillinge = 22 skilling. A further 4 sk was added (note '26' in red crayon) for the Rayon 1 charge from Hamburg Danish P.O. (datestamp on reverse) to destination. A delightful and rare cover in excellent condition.

    1852: 15 c. orange-yellow, two fine examples used on attractive 1864 cover to Copenhagen, Denmark tied by boxed "Franco" handstamps in black, with Amsterdam datestamp (Oct 10) in red below. Treated as fully paid by Dutch P.O. but actually short paid by 5 cents. Manuscript 'Wf. 2' in blue ink (German share of 2 sgr.) and below this '4' in blue crayon (silvergroschen-credited forward to cover German and Danish shares). Reverse of cover with "Emmerich / Oberhausen" framed TPO (10/10) in black. Luebeck transit cds (11/10) and Copenhagen arrival (12/10). Some ageing in upper margin of the adhesives only and vertical file fold well away from adhesives, otherwise a superb and rare franking. Cert. Dr. Albert Louis (1990).

    1629 (Sept 28): Entire letter from Bartholomew Bottini in Krakow addressed to Francesco Medici in Florence, with manuscript rate on front "Z 1.12-" for 1 zloty 12 grosz, reverse panel (opens well for display) showing manuscript "3" for the denari amount due on receipt. A charming and extremely rare entire, covers showing rates are seldom found.
    Note: The Montelupi family ran Postal services for merchants between Krakow and Florence via Vienna and Venice during the 17th and 18th centuries, merging with the Royal Post in the 18th centruy.

    1633 (Nov 12): Entire letter showing the great circular seal (85mm. diameter) of King Wladislaw IV of Poland, a superb embossed example displaying well on letter written to "Dna. Isabella Clara Eugenia, Infanta Hispaniarum Austria, Duce Burgundia Brabantia Luxemburgi Geloria Comiti Tyrolis..." with full date and signature of "Wladislaus Rex" at base. Isabella died on December 1, 1633 in Brussels just three weeks after this letter was written and it is possible that the letter remained unread. A rare and appealing document.

    1779 (Feb 12): Entire letter written from Krakow to Hodimont by Verviers, with manuscript "Cracou" in red at top, letter number '18' deleted and rate markings (all three deleted): '15', '22 ½' (in red ink), and '30' with final '32' rate marking not deleted and being the charge in Stuyvers to collect on arrival in Hodimont (Austrian Netherlands at this time). The letter carried by the Thurn & taxis Post via Vienna, the Contract having been ratified on March 1, 1777 with Karl Anselm, Prince of Thurn & Taxis. A rare and fine entire that displays well.
