1852: 15 c. orange-yellow, two fine examples used on attractive 1864 cover to Copenhagen, Denmark tied by boxed "Franco" handstamps in black, with Amsterdam datestamp (Oct 10) in red below. Treated as fully paid by Dutch P.O. but actually short paid by 5 cents. Manuscript 'Wf. 2' in blue ink (German share of 2 sgr.) and below this '4' in blue crayon (silvergroschen-credited forward to cover German and Danish shares). Reverse of cover with "Emmerich / Oberhausen" framed TPO (10/10) in black. Luebeck transit cds (11/10) and Copenhagen arrival (12/10). Some ageing in upper margin of the adhesives only and vertical file fold well away from adhesives, otherwise a superb and rare franking. Cert. Dr. Albert Louis (1990).
Note: A late usage of the 1852 15 cent value, the 1864 issue 15 c. was issued in November.
