Postage Dues 1898: Postage Due Essay - Capt. E.A. Stanton's original pen & wash drawing (he also designed the Camel Postman) for the design as later accepted showing the Gunboat "Zafir" for the vignette, drawn in ink on cloth-backed Map paper, together with a potential design for the stamps at lower right and an indication of colours he believed to be suitable; signed "E.A. Stanton, Capt. / Berber / 25.5.98" at lower left. The drawing was sent to De La Rue 8 Sept 1898 with the request for it to be used as the basis for the Sudan Postage Due issue; these were eventually issued in 1901. Illustrated in "The De La Rue Collection" edited by Frank Walton RDP on page 6203 and in E.C.W. Stagg "Sudan Stamps & Postal Stationery" on page 93.
