    Nyasaland Protectorate 1907: De La Rue composite imperforate Essay for proposed 2½ d. value, with printed vignette in brown super-imposed on partially hand-painted frame endorsed STRAITS SETTLEMENTS at base, the design being utilised initially for the Nyasaland 1908 issue - which however had no 2½ d. Duty. The Straits Settlements used the design for the 21 c. and 45 c. adhesives of Novermber 1910. The Essay with manuscript date "March 8th 07" at top and "Name of Colony + duty to be left blank".     Nyasaland Protectorate 1911 (June 16): De La Rue composite Essay for proposed £ 25 value, the design showing Edward VII head-plate even though George V had ascended to the throne in May 1910, stamp size imperforate on thick card (89 x 114 mm.) with frame hand-painted in deep bright green and lettering in Chinese white, the £25 Duty Plates at top and NYASALAND PROTECTORATE in red on card paper applied over the handpainted design.
