'grigio nero', both in type I from the 'prima tiratura', two fine and fresh examples with good to large margins, tied by crisp BASSANO two-line datestamp (Sassone VI = 2 punti). Reverse struck by indistinct VERONA arrival cds. Horizontal file fold well away from the adhesives, a fresh cover with this patriotic franking paying the 15 c. rate in the first rayon. Signed A.     1850: Carta a mano 15 c. red type III with good to large margins all round, tied by two line "S.M. MADDALENA 14 OTT." (1854) datestamp to cover to Ferrarra, Papal States, reverse with arrival datestamp of the next day. Obverse shows a good strike of "Ferrara / Netta Fuori / e Dentro" fumigation handstamp. The cover was slitted twice and fumigated. A rare cleaned item in the rayon limitrophe between Venetia and the Papal States, with a distance between the offices below 10 miles. Correctly paid with 15 c. following the postal treaty of November 1852.

Part of address torn out of the cover, skillfully repaired. Although no year is indicated in this cover, the usage of a stamp from the first printrun suggests a usage in 1850. Cert. E. Reverse with FERRARA transit and BOLOGNA arrival (Aug 6) cds's. Franked with 30 centesimi until the Papal border, taxed and due to unknown reasons detaxed.

    1850: Carta a mano 45 c. 'azzuro ardesia' type II, a single fresh adhesives with good to large margins all round, a pre-cut in the left margin just mentioned for accuracy, tied by "MANTOVA 24 / 7" cds to 1854 cover directed to Bruxelles. Obverse was struck by "DOPO LA PARTENZA" handstamp in red and oval "BOLLO INSUFFICIENTE" handstamp in violet. Reverse with "ALLEMAGNE EST" railway transit and BRUXELLES arrival cds (July 29). The letter was partially paid until the border of the GAPU, therefore taxed with '3' (décimes) for the second Belgian rayon following the postal treaty of January 1852.

Obverse with "P.D." in red and French "AUTRICHE 19 AVRIL 59 CULOZ" entry cds in red, this one tying two adhesives. Reverse with indistinct arrival cds. An exceptional three colour franking of utmost attractiveness including only type I adhesives, in Sassone unknown. 30 soldi franking to France via Sardegna. Cert.     1863: 3 s. green on obverse and 5 s. rosa on reverse of registered local cover, both perf. 14, both adhesives with normal perforation and centering, well embossed, the 3 soldi - adhesive tied by RACCOMANDATA handstamp, the 5 soldi - adhesive tied by clear "OSTIGLIA 11 / 5" cds. Large-sized local cover strongly refolded, nevertheless a rare combination to correctly pay the 3+5 soldi rate for a local registered letter. Interestingly the two adhesives were cancelled with the 'wrong' obliterators. Signed Puschmann Sassone = € 3'500.

    Fiscal stamps used as definitives / Marche da bollo usate per posta 1854: 30 c. green & black with the value in typography, a fine and fresh adhesive with good perforation, tied by lightly oily "CADORE 31 OTT." two line datestamp (Sassone BL = 6 punti) to 1856 (?) cover, directed to Venezia, reverse with arrival cds (Nov. 2). Very attractive usage, the datestamp leaving the tableau untouched, a rare franking with fiscal stamps instead of postal definitives to pay the 30 c. rate in the second rayon. Sassone = € 1'100 + 480.rnNote: Until July 1857 the use of fiscal stamps to pay the postage was tolerated in Austria and Lombardo-Veneto.
