    1860: Thick Figures 60 c. brown-lilac, a fine example in a deep shade (Type 5) and 120 c. blue with clear to good margins (Type 3), used on 1864 entire letter endorsed 'per Stella' to Buenos Aires, tied by oval framed "Admon de Correos / Montevideo" datestamp (Feb 9) in black. A scarce double rate cover and extremely fine, with fascinating content: "You will have heard about the accident to the 'Menai' (Steamer)...there was great excitement in the town last evening at 10 min. past 7 the alarm guns were fired and all the National Guard called to the cuartels .....some of the (Flores) Forces had advanced to Toledo...". Condition varies but a scarce group.

Carried by French Mailboat 'Equateur' with octagonal "MONTEVIDEO / PAQ. FR. J. No. 2" datestamp below (Aug 10) in black (Salles fig. 1076). Struck with triangular 'T' marking and manuscript '140' and corresponding Italy 1870 Postage Due 40 c. and 1 lire tied by 'Torino' cds (Sept 7). Some peripheral aging but an attractive entire.

Rio arrival in red on reverse of a most attractive cover.

Framed RECOMENDA handstamp at left and reverse with 'Director General de Correos / Montevideo' datestamp (Dec 9) - thus the letter probably contained an AR receipt form being returned. Scarce and fine.

    1928 (Dec. 30): 'Raid avion' Montevideo - Rio de Janeiro, headed envelope AGENCIA HAVAS endorsed "Raid aviadores peruanos Martinez Pinillo y (Carlos) Zegarra" franked with  Uruguay 5c. tied by "Montevideo Exterior 9-29.XII.28" cds. plus additional franking Brasil 300 Reis applied in Rio de Janeiro 3-1.29", signed by the pilots. A very rare item, only five known.
