    Bolivar 1846/50c.: Covers (5, four are ex Leo Harris collection) from Riobamba (when named Bolivar) with 1846 cover to Quito with "BOLIVAR / FRANCA" in red (Harris fig. 15 = 4 pts.) and a superb strike on undated cover; 1850c. cover with fine "BOLIVAR / DEBE" in red (Harris fig. 14 = 4 pts.) rated at 8 reales for 2 ounces, 1850c. covers one prepaid and re-used from Guano with oval framed "BOLIVAR / FRANCA" in red (Harris fig. 16 = 3 pts.) and oval "BOLIVAR / DEBE" in blue on cover to Ambato (Harris fig. 17 = 3 pts.), this last illustrtated in Harris on page 84.     British P.O. 1865: Cover to Paris with fine oval framed "QUITO / FRANCA" handstamp in red (Harris fig. 18), with Ecuador "GUAYAQUIL" cds (June 17) in black (Harris fig. 17) and equally fine "GUAYAQUIL" British P.O. cds on reverse (June 18) in blue-black. London transit (July 15) and "GB / 2F 87½ c." accountancy handstamp applied, charged 36 décimes due on arrival. Tape stain and a few scuffs but scarce and opens well for display.

    British P.O. 1864: Cover from Guayaquil to Lima prepaid '6d.' in red manuscript, struck with fine single ring "GUAYAQUIL / PAID" cds, code C, in black (Jan 30). Reverse with Lima arrival cds and obverse with oval framed CONDUCCION / DEL CARTERO / GRATIS (local delivery free). A good strike of the GUAYAQUIL / PAID, earlier than recorded by Parmenter, Morton and Gordon; however this describer has recorded an example used on Nov 23, 1863. Scarce nevertheless.

    British P.O. 1871 (Aug 9): Great Britain 1864 1 d. red pl. 140, 1865 4 d. vermilion pl. 11 and 2 s. blue, used on 1872 entire letter from Guayaquil to Barcelona, Spain, Puig correspondence, tied by two strikes of the "C41" obliterator with reverse showing double arc 'Guayaquil' datestamp (fEB 12) in black. Three line dated 'PANAMA / TRANSIT' (Feb 20) in black and 'London / Paid' cds (March 14), circular 'PD' in red. Manuscript '2' (20 c.) in red due upon delivery in Barcelona with arrival verso. The reverse with some aging as exposed to water not affecting the frontal appearance. A charming and extremely scarce three colour franking. Cert.     1928: Cover 'made for favour' for the Quito-Barranquilla flight on August 24th, four colour franking with 1c. up to 1s. of the National issue, in addition two Scadta stamps for Ecuador '75c.' on 15c. and '3s'. on 60c., all nicely cancelled to order but nevertheless a rare cover. Cert. Sismondo (2004) and Brian Moorhouse with precise explanation for this item (2015).

    1840/62: Two Letters, the earlier from Quito (May 16) with oval framed "SELLO DE LA POLICIA" with superb "Eye" and laurel wreath surround struck in bright red, the second dated March 1862 with printed "Republica del Ecuador / Jefetura Jeneral de Policia" also from Quito with a re-cut version of the same marking with laurel wreathes and eye in more stylised format, struck in blue. A scarce and attractive pair.

    1868: Stitched file document (30 pages) with printed heading "Gobierno Eclesiástico de la Diócesis / Palavio Episcopal / Riobamba", commencing on June 8, 1868 from Riobamba and repolies to correspondence from Quito (June 17) with embossed seal; August 1868 examples from Quito with circular black seal showing the Arms of Ecuador and "Sello Octavo Vale Dos Reales" at base - in total 18 sheets with this imprint. Some minor faults but a remarkable correspondence of letters giving a fascinating insight to Church business in Ecuador.
